You're the Bob Ross of machining. Watching an absolute pro work effortlessly, while being talked through the proces in the most relaxing way, and so that everyone understand. Nothing ever gets to you (unless it matters) and everything has a solution. Its a joy watching these videos, SNS always makes my weekend!

Thank you for visiting with me and all the others about the work steps you are taking on the shaper. I really enjoyed "hearing" the way the file sounded when you were working on the edge that was raised. I could actually hear what you were talking about as you took the raised part off that was caused by the hammer blows. Super job...thanks for talking us through it. May be your best two SNS's ever.

Never worry that hand filing might be "boring," as mentioned in your previous video. The hand-tool skills are just as interesting. And for some of us who have done some small metal work but never got our hands on stuff in a machine shop, are also something we can relate too. My tryst with metal work was some years as a jeweller, just a hobbyist, but built up a fairly good workshop (and a little bit of skill!). Your videos are wonderful, and reignite the wish I had since school to learn and do machining. Not foreseeable, but hey, I may yet have another whole one-third of lifetime left!

Beautiful work and I know it will be maintained throughout it's time with you in your shop. I take brand new machines and touch up factory paint that has become chipped or scratched during shipping to make it flawless and will maintain it in that manner always. I have tools I have kept and used for 30 years that look as pristine as when they came out of the box. Some would ask if I ever use them and they are used on a regular basis.

Good to see it coming back together. When radiusing the edges of plates that will slide over other surfaces, I THINK it's more likely to force particles between the plates than with a sharp edge. So wipe down before sliding.

Those shapers and planers are really wonderful tools - when they start cutting blue chips they really move lots of metal. I bet you could make short work of lathe ways and saddles, and mill tables with a good planer. Then you could scrape the last thou or half and not worry about low spots.

Good idea putting in a deeper key, I think those sliding keys can raise a burr on the threaded part of the lead screw. That may be a problem on one of the smooth drive rods for the carriage on a lathe I saw with a really worn bushing. Maybe a Colchester...

I loved your soft touch with putting these components back to working precision. I am still baffled by what type of imbecile would use a hammer to strike a precision tool with such force as to deform it.
