I'm so glad you picked Linux up, your videos have helped me so much on my journey to better understand Linux and its inner workings and fix all the mistakes I've inevitably made along the way (or that windows has decided to make for me). I really couldn't be more grateful to you. Not only did you help me so much but you also inspired me to go back to Arch from Manjaro and I couldn't be happier, it really is my favorite distribution and it was my first too, which always makes it special. Thank you so much for your effort and dedication to the channel, it's really been wonderful discovering it.

I viewed your video on using BackInTime software and was very impressed with your teaching ability. Years ago I successfully set up a PC with FreeBSD but felt my success was more good luck than good management! For the past 5 years I've been running Ubuntu and just recently loaded Trisquel 9.0 on another older laptop. However, again I don't feel that I am using Linux as it should be used, more like a lightweight Windows 7 type of experience. I try to use the terminal to rekindle the excitement I felt back in the late '70s when I bought my first Commodore 64 using the command line to accomplish ,what seemed at the time, magic. I'm now 75 years old and it's do or die time, so I will embark on this journey of learning Linux with you as my guide. Winter will be here in northern Canada before you know it and this seems like a worthwhile project to pass those long days. Thank you for this channel.

Someone from the brazilian Arch Linux community told me about your channel and for me, it is, by far, one of the best that I've seen. Well, I'm still a beginner on Linux but I really think that Arch Linux is worth it, especially for me, a future CS student. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷

Ermano,,, You served motivation needed for me to shutdown Windows and start using ArchLinux as my primary desktop. It’s been 8 months since I switched recovered from 3 crash using BTRFS snapshot. I even challenged my manager, coworker and friends to switch to Arch Linux and suggested your video as 1st step towards this. You keep video free from sale pitch and personal opinion and share what you know with humble heart and I appreciate that wholeheartedly.

I just wanted to mention that, when I decided to install Arch, I was not sure how to start and looked for KZbin videos. At that time, the third to come up was one of your videos and it was that the video that gave me confidence of continue and install Arch with all the perks. I still follow your approach of having bash files with the commands to install specific desktop environment and for reset Arch installation (That for me was one of the best videos). Thank you so much for your work. Keep it up!!!!

I love arch for the same reason. I've been using ubuntu based distros for around 10 years and never found the motivation to dig deeper into the linux world. Then a month with manjaro did the trick and it immediately convinced me to try arch. After a whole day of trying I managed to install it for my first time... and two days later I also broke it. But damn if I didn't find it entertaining and educational! For a few months I kept reinstalling and breaking arch every few weeks while trying different options, learning some of the linux basics and to actually pay attention to the damn manual. Needless to say, your channel helped me a lot during my first days as an archer and your "last" arch linux installation (I think it was the one from May 6th 2020) was my reference back then. Now I still watch your Arch installations whenever there are interesting upgrades, like the last one with the updated archinstall script, and your channel is still the first one where I search linux-related stuff that picks my interest, for example recently I was curious about RHCSA and Fedora Silverblue and of course I found out you talked about both! Thanks a lot, Ermanno.

Almost a year and a half ago I switched to Linux. I saw one of your Arch install videos and went for it. Though I broke my first install a couple days later, I went for round two using the notes I wrote from your video and I'm still using that same install. The struggles have taught me that struggling is progressing and I shouldn't be afraid of learning difficult things.. I now have my own Arch install script that I wrote, plus a few system tools I built after I learned python. I'm thinking my next project will be a system configuration tool using Ncurses and C. It will manipulate my dotfiles so I can quickly make changes on the fly to my system. So thank you a ton for sharing your knowledge!

Ermanno excellent videos. I am also a big Archlinux fan. Gentoo (source code install OpenRC) is another favorite of mine. Gentoo is easy compared to LFS. Also done a several installs of Linux From Scratch (LFS), one System V and other Systemd. If your into pain and deep research of editing code LFS will keep you busy for weeks if you plan on both a Base and GUI install. LFS is a true bottoms up install of Linux. :) Look forward to seeing your quality videos again.

I spent 2 decades working as a systems analyst for a large casino corporation. My number 1 piece of advice is this. If you don't know the answer, don't be afraid to say "I don't know. Let's figure it out before we do anything that might break something." No one is expected to just know everything. You don't have to know it all. You just have to know how and where to find the answers.

If you do another, I would appreciate if you talked more about your experiences with getting the Red Hat certification. For example: what you did to prepare for the exam and what the exam was like. In your next Arch installation video, could you show how to get SELinux working? Every time I try, SELinux never works like it does in Fedora for example. Thanks again!

Hi Ermanno, I really love your work. However I hv come across a major problem with Arch Linux, to be honest, I found out various other blogs and arch wiki, without any major help. The issue seems to be happening more on AMD MOBO DESKTOPS. It would be great, if you can shed some light on this and help us out, because a lot of people are facing this issue on linux machines, especially vanilla arch. The issue is I have 32 GB OF RAM installed on my machine, however Arch shows only 14 GB of RAM. This has bugged me for quite a while now. I don't even know if this is a normal behavior of Arch Linux or not, that too, I don't know.

Fun fact: Most Linux Users on KZbin often claim "you can build the machine yourself blah blah blah" then they choose Gentoo to show audience how hard core they are but here is the catch: 99% of the time, these self-called Linux users install Gentoo on virtual machine that already has Internet via Ethernet. It means they want to choose the easy way, not the hard way, not the building from scratch like they usually be proud of. #braggers !!! Real Linux users are those who actually wake their network interface up, calling manufacture name with code and get it connects to WIFI, explains to people what stage the Wireless card is ---> this is only found in *Unix / BSD community years ago, these true hard core users don't depend or rely on available Internet (via Ethernet) and knows what devices they use, not by the look of the out side of their machines. They dig into their command lines.
