About Radio 49 Checking the RF Alignment, Eddystone S680X communications receiver

This is one of two videos; in this video I check the alignment of the five bands and find that one band needs bringing back into line. I'm not a professional 'Radio Repairer' I do things in my own way with a signal generator to provide the RF carrier and a second signal generator providing an audible tone. Towards the end of the second video I do show how the manufactures say it should be done, that's by using the radios BFO, (beat frequency oscillator.) I'm not saying that what I do is right or better I'm simply sharing my experience of what I'm doing and how I do it. I intend to check the IF alignment but that will be in another video. I have done a great deal of work with this radio including redrawing the circuit diagram and components list.

I have also identified the 20 inductors in the radio, as they were not identified in the original manual. When I redrew the circuit I did it so as you can print it on one page or in a much larger scale on four pages. If you can't open that link or fine the Eddystone site let me know.

Hi Shane, well lucky you. The radio is What’s called a ‘Communications Receiver.’ Communication receivers don’t necessarily have the greatest sound quality; the one in the video needs an external speaker, it also needs an aerial, you won’t hear anything without it. These radios have very good ‘Selectivity’ that is if there are two stations close together the radio can resolve either one. Howdy Andy, I enjoyed your demonstration of your Eddystone receiver and Test Equipment. I own a small company called DSM Labs and I restore R 390, 390A and 392 receivers as well as some Hammarlund and Drake for good measure. Your techniques are the same as I use except my test equipment is from this side of the big pond. Hi. Hi there, Andy! I've just been given lots of vintage radio equipment, I've got one of these but not a clue about it.. it's in very good condition, I was wondering what sort of power lead it requires or if it can run off batteries? Any help would be great, also what sort of radio is this, can it be used for music by any chance? (completely new to these) I'm in the UK. Cheers, Shane.
