Family comes first. I love your videos. A quick question: I will be receiving $600K from medical retirement, but need to carry it onto another super fund for 2 years before I turn 60 (so I don't pay tax on it). I want to put this in cash until this time and was thinking either 1) SMSF with bank term deposit, or 2) a different super fund but in the low-risk/cash category. I have sufficient funds to get through the period until I turn 60. Any thoughts or alternatives?

I have found myself in an interesting position. I retired start of 2021 mostly because my aging mother who I live with and who is 94 now started needing more and more care and someone available to her most of the time. I have two younger brothers both with families living in Melbourne and Tasmania while I live with her in Sydney. When I retired I converted my superannuation to pension. I was recently approved for Centrelink age pension as well as carer allowance which allowed me to dramatically reduce what I draw from the superannuation pension. My mother and I live in a relatively upmarket apartment not far from Sydney CBD valued between 2 and 3 million and our combined expenses are very low. The big issue looking at the not too distant future is that she may get to the point where even with me here she is no longer capable of living here and we will have to look at her moving into an aged care facility. My understanding is that this is likely to be very expensive and most likely require selling her apartment. It doesn't help that she would absolutely hate moving into even the best aged care facilities. Any information for those in a similar situation would be very helpful.

This may help... Where you are a member of a couple, or have someone living with you in the property, the home may be exempt from the aged care assessment. For the property to be exempt, the home must be occupied by a ‘Protected Person’ at the time of entry to permanent care. A ‘Protected Person’ includes; Spouse; A dependent child; A carer who has been living with you in the property for the previous 2 years, and is eligible to receive a means tested payment from Centrelink or DVA; or A close relative who had been living with you in the property for the previous 5 years, and is eligible to receive a means tested payment from Centrelink or DVA.

@@davidkamp2607 Thank you very much, that is very useful information. I have been living with her since 2007 when my father died. I have been her carer since 2020 when she fell and fractured her hip requiring surgery. It looks to me we would meet the criteria you describe.
