This is one of the first pieces I remember learning, and it has remained one of my favorites over the years.
This recording of Robert Schumann's "About Strange Lands and People" from his Scenes from Childhood (Op. 15, No. 1) was done on December 23, 2006.
Enjoy!

Story that's irrelevant to everyone but me. Someone plays this in an episode of Star Trek Voyager, that I just saw. When I heard it, I relived scenes of my own piano-playing (including learning this piece) and I just had to find a recording of it. Thanks for posting. A lot of amateur recordings on KZbin are painful to listen to, but this one is quite pleasant.

Thanks for posting this. Milo and Otis is my 3 yr old daughters favourite movie and, being the modern child she is, she wanted me to look the song up on KZbin. lol

I'm just beginning to learn this beautiful piece - you make it seem so easy!!! I'm struggling with the strange cross overs in the left hand, feel so awkward! Any advice? Thanks for posting, it sounds very very lovely.

Its true, follow the writing of the piece though, the first two notes are played with the left hand, and the third 'left hand note' is played with the right.

Did you get it figured out? Yes, MDkid1 is right: there is no cross-over, you just play all the notes in the treble clef with the right hand. You can see that's what she's doing in the video. The trick is to give more emphasis to the melody in the right hand than what you're doing with your thumb.

If you like that kind of piano music, you would probably love Yiruma. He's amazing. He's a South Korean Composer and I came across him on youtube. He's now my absolute favorite composer. Check out his music it's beautiful. I think you'd really play it well. Some examples are - River Flows in You (my favorite), Love Me, and Do You? His music is repetitive, but absolutely beautiful. :)
