i think its about time we finally realize how passé the "tweening is lazy and inferior" ideology is.

i feel all tweening is valid, because what you consider "good" tweening over "lazy" tweening was only made possible thanks to the fact the artist /did/ lazy tweening. i've got several projects i lost over the years where i attempted tweening that looked identical to the "lazy" tweening commonly criticized here. honestly, let people tween however they want. it's the only way you'll eventually /get/ the artist who you consider to be doing good tweening.

Tweening, in many cases, has better results than frame by frame and can be done faster. Not doing that because it's """lazy""" would be utterly ridiculous.

I've never understood the whole tweening isn't animation thing. I may not be a fan of the style because I personally prefer frame-by-frame, but I know it still requires just as much work and effort. I've seen fantastic uses of the technique and I most certainly would never give someone shit for using it. I don't think people realize just how useful it really is, your examples really showed it!

@Stormixly I have a problem with the "replying a year later" thing...well how people react to it. Everytime I reply to something that is 2 million years old the dude will only talk about that, and it started to get more and more pointless. Once I had a breaking point when I saw a joke posted a year ago that I laughed at, so I commented "lol". Now let's be honest, lol is such mindless and braindead comment with no value in it except to convey that I laughed at a joke. 5 minutes later: "bro it was a year ago😂" and I got pissed, why do people do this? Really? The internet is forever so why are you surprised to get a reply years later? What is even the point of pointing out (pun not intended) that your comment is year old, especially if it is as brain dead of a response that I gave. Sorry for the rant, i just hate it.

of course tweening is a valid form of animation, even if the examples i see are usually stiff as heck, like only the head's moving, or a still character sliding over the background to avoid animating running. all artists start somewhere, you know? too bad people see these and think the artist was just lazy :(

*CORRECTION TO TWO MISTAKES I MADE IN THE CAPTIONS OF THE VIDEO* -The first bit of the last animation is mislabelled. The buildings are going up and the wall down, not the other way around. My bad! -There was a /miniscule/ bit more frame by frame in the You Make Me Feel part. When she unsheathes her claw, I drew a couple of inbetweens of when her claw is sheathed to when they are unsheathed, but only those two or three inbetweens. The rest is, as I said, 100% tweened.

Animating in general is hard no matter what technique some people use, so props to all the animators out there. Respect to you for taking the time to learn :] since 2017 I've been using tweening as a way to speed up my process. It's not cheating and it's definitely not easier either, it's just another way to animate.. I respect animators who use either technique as both require talent and skill

I have to ask how in the world did you do the tweening for the head turn from 0:13-0:15? With a shape tween in Adobe After effects perhaps? But you mention it as a classic tween which I have NO Idea how such a masterpiece of a perspective turn could occur with a classic tween. And I'm guessing you're moving the eye to the side slightly to give the illusion of perspective/masking the pupil over it? Apologies for all these questions, there's basically no tween tutorials for MAPs so I've been trying to figure stuff out by looking at parts. (Amazing work by the way! It's so cool how you combine tweens and frame by frame together!)

The best way I can explain what I did is that I broke segments of the face (cheek fur, markings, eye (which also had several layers inside of a movie clip) and so on and so forth) and then tweaked their scale and rotation to make it seem like a perspective shift. But none of it was done in After Effects, it was all in Animate.

I mean tweening can be done lazily, and generally a lot of people just starting to do animation try it out first. Especially since it can create a finished product faster than frame by frame. So ig that gives tweening a bad reputation, when really, it can be used very affectively and create intricate movement.

I use tweens in the gameplay of 2 of games of mine and feel like it's a very good technique for smoothing, although it is frame to other frame tweening, not multi frame. I made a script in Scratch that moves the sprite/clone to it's current position in increments customizable by the user, it works well until there's a lot of moving objects, then the FPS goes to hell...
