Trevor you’ll love it!! Congrats. It’s a superb aircraft. Needs a lot more stick movement that the c42, but again - each skyranger is different due to its kit built nature, I guess. Yeh this one has a heater, still need good thermals in winter, but fully useable even on the coldest of days. Enjoy! Looking forward to hearing your updates...

Hey Ben and Daisy Great seeing you both enjoying the brilliant sunset. FYI if you do wind up with a Skyranger, you can reduce the drafts quite a lot, and also a heater is possible. ( not really required in Oz imho). Interesting to get your thoughts on the C42. Yes premium headsets are great, I bought a Lightspeed on eBay, worth every cent.

Hey Michael, thanks for watching and commenting. Interesting on the stopping the drafts ...this does have a heater but its fairly inefficient. There's a way of improving it with a pipe of the back of the radiator, or something....! Yeh - unfortunately you really do get what you pay for ...lightspeeds are brilliant.

Hi Ben - the flying school Skyranger that I have used for training has quite large diameter pipe insulating foam at the top of the windows which cuts down the draughts quite a bit. Still not the warmest of machines though. Great video as always!

Hi Ben, wonderful stuff as always. My mate flew the C42 above the clouds recently - forgot to take photos! But he loved it. I think the the C42s are great looking little planes, so is the Skyranger. The C42/52s are more 'produced' of course, and according to my mates/dad's mates, the seating is a little on the hard side, but the C42 is very stable, capable and a great trainer. Although a bit of an ergonomic challenge at times. BUT it has a heater! The Skyranger, seems more of a 'microlight' whereas the C42 is easily a contender for the C150/152. However the Skyranger looks smart it's ergonomics and panel look better to my eyes - plus IIRC, it's quicker too. And the cockpit is brighter and more airy with better visibility - so much more plexiglass. Also love the review on the headsets - your gf wangled those Bose headsets from you LOL. Good points though, shoes, beds etc something you use everyday so quality matters - perhaps headsets should be added to that list? Also it isn't just about sound quality comfort comes into play too. Good mini review.

Ben Atkinson Hi, thanks. My mate and I have both flown an EV97, his dad too, a smashing little plane. Perhaps a bit more sensitive to turbulence and in general. And lighter on the controls than the C42, great fun - more of a pilot's plane though?

Always good to get above the clouds. I think we can chase the audio around for ever, especially in my plane, that is noisy inside. I have to say that the heater in a C42 is nice in this cold weather but I do like the handling of my little Kub (it might be slow but it turns on a sixpence and take off / landing in the length of a foor ball pitch).

Another great video Ben, looks like a cracking flight above the clouds, can't beat flying at this time of year. I flew both the C42 and the Skyranger Nynja before deciding to buy & in the end decided to build the Nynja Kit. Although the C42 is a nice aircraft to fly, for me you just can't beat the visibility and the all round fun factor of the Skyranger. I never get bored of flying it and I've fitted the heater to mine & also the Thermal Screen behind the seats which blanks off the rear of the fuselage and makes the cockpit warmer. With regards to headsets, after trying the Bose A20 & the Lightspeed Zulu's I found them to be on par with each other but opted for the Lightspeeds as they were the comfier fit for me. I have also tried a pair of my friends SEHT ones out of curiosity but also found the clamping force to be uncomfortable after a short while. Looking forward to the next video.👌

The skyranger is a really fun aircraft. With you on that - thats for sure! The vis is impeccable ....and its a very versatile aircraft - if you have a warmer one! Mind you, we got to 5000ft on a freezing winters day and we didn't freeze to death...so not all bad. Yeh the SEHT's aren't the most comfortable...but at the lower-mid end of the market...they do the job well and do feel quality. But of course the bose or light speeds are another league....but you do pay through the nose! Thanks for watching...catch you next time

Interesting comparison Ben, between the two headsets. No surprise the BOSE came out on top though, given the price difference! I ‘upgraded’ my Zulus to the Clarity Aloft in-ear headset. Flown a few times now and I love them. Zero weight on the head and no clamping due to being in-ear. Noise reduction is superb also. They don’t seem very common though. Great video as always mate.

I think they are big in America. Particularly with the aerobatics lot. So far so good. Audio really is a pain in the bum. Spend most of my time syncing the video with the audio. God knows how you do it with more than one camera on the go!

I’ve flown the C42, loved every bit of it. However, recently my flying school went bankrupt and went into liquidation which resulted in me losing money. I was gutted, as I loved Tom who was my instructor. However, I’m moving on now to Aeros Flight School where I’ll be starting my PPL in the pipers, then making my way through the modular fast track. Love the videos Ben, can’t wait to see some Eurostar footage!

Ben I really enjoy you videos, I’m still learning I’m 13 hours in but COVID has put a big dent in my training, I’m up to circuits and landing which I’ve just about got the hang of nearly. Honestly watching your videos is absolutely brilliant as it really helps to keep things fresh in my head, really great to hear your instructor basically saying the same as my instructor lol. Hi Ben, Like you I use the SEHT (same model). Have been looking for 2nd hand Bose A20s for a while. My budget is £500 (not a penny more - her indoors) absolutely no joy whatsoever - you got a good deal. If there's anyone out there with surplus A20s - £500 waiting. The comparisons between the C42 and Skyranger were very interesting. Unfortunately at my club - no choice - C42 or nothing. Great vid Ben. As a 74 year old I feel able to say that that I've never heard 'Ooh La La' said better. Thanks Daisy. Cheers

I love my A20's. Had them a few years now and they are the dogs. The extra money is an investment in safety.

C42 is an easy aircraft to fly, very comfortably in the cockpit, and a touch warmer in the winter.... but it feels a bit lethargic in the air. The Skyranger on the other hand flys like a spitfire... feels really responsive, but there is less room in the cockpit, I have owned both and currently own and fly a C42... its a great allrounder ... I'm looking out for a Eurofox if I win the lottery, fantastic build quality and flys like a sky ranger although the C42 even beats it on cockpit room. We have a small skyranger squadron (5) at the club here you can pick them up quite reasonably if you keep your eye out and quick off the mark they don't hang about too long, for value for money, you'll never beat the Skyranger. The 100hp engined model is a blast.... 1700 fpm 2 up i think it was developed by NASA .... great vid food for thought for some more comparison vids.... flight tests etc....

Great video as always Ben, but it looks like you may have lost your A20's though! Ha Ha!! But how can you say no!!! As an aside, I have the SEHT SH10-X headset, which is like a Bose copy so has similar advantages but for a bit less money. I am happy with mine and actually found them more comfortable that the A20's, for me anyway.

@@heidbummer274 Hi Neil. I was able to try them both at the LAA Rally last year using their simulation software. From the limited time I had, they both did a good job of noise cancelling and seemed as good as each other. I am sure if you could measure these things properly, then the Bose may be slightly better on paper, but there was no discernible difference to my uneducated ears. As mentioned above, I also found the SH10-X more comfortable for me personally. I think they are slightly lighter in weight as well. I only have about 5 hours with them at the moment, but I have been happy with them.

Hi Ben noticed you had your phone mounted on the centre spar on the C42 above the compass great idea, do you know of any issues generally to having the phone so close to the magnetic compass?

Hey Rox, I’ve noticed no problems with the compass. It’s a club mounted item, so I assume nobody else has either as it’s been there a while. Hope this helps!
