A great afternoon at Aboyne Trails. I have never challenged myself on natural trails and I appreciate I have a lot of work to do. First ride after the spill I had at Tarland so i was going easy. I just love being on my bike regardless of the pace.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. There's nothing 👏 wrong 👏 with 👏 your 👏 pace. You need to give credit where it's due. You had a nasty crash, you're recovering, you're riding on unfamiliar territory, on unfamiliar type of terrain... You need to give yourself grace and credit. When I had my crash in Wales, I wouldn't even consider riding somewhere new, on terrain I'm not familiar with and I did fire roads. This video makes me want to go ride there! Much love 💜

Well that’s another one to add to the list. There are so many trials at Aboyne.

Great coaching session with you. Great riding and nice to hear some confidence building up with control too. Well done on the trail riding. 🚵‍♀

Thanks. It really has helped spending some time within you and putting it in to practise. I have lots to look forward to.

I just found your videos - KZbin suggested your Banchory Woodland Trails video to me because they're my closest trails and I've searched several times for videos of the trails there to try and scout them out before going to them. So that's how I came across you, but I then watched a couple of your other videos, and now this one - and I'm sure I'll watch more! I'm a 40 year old guy (although in my head I still think I'm about 23!) who's been riding for a couple of years, and only really discovered proper trails this year. Banchory Woodland Trails were the first trails I'd ever ridden, back in May, and I've still not made it to Tarland yet, although it's top of my list. So I'm a beginner to riding trails too (I'm yet to ride the black line at Banchory), and I wanted to say I don't think you rode slowly in this video. You were on new trails, figuring out where they were going and what they were doing, not knowing how rocky or bumpy they would be - your speed meant if something particularly gnarly or technical came up suddenly you'd have been able to stop in time. As a beginner on trails, one of the things I realised in my sessions at Banchory this summer has been that my speed is totally irrelevant. I'm still at a point where I'm learning skills and I realised that when I was trying to go faster because I felt like I 'should' be, I wasn't actually learning or developing any skills, just taking more risks. So I decided to focus on the skills I was learning and not on going that little bit faster, and it felt so much better and has raised my confidence. I'm really proud that I managed to get both wheels in the air this summer...but I think in reality it was only a couple of inches off the ground, and to someone else who's a better rider than me it would have looked pretty tame. I'm still proud of myself because I'm better than I was at the start of the summer, and I have more confidence. A couple of skills are starting to click, and it's because I'm not rushing down the trail. So don't be down on yourself for speed, I think you're doing things right. Particularly that section at the top of the second trail, where you chose the new line second time round - easing down it to see where it went and what it was like is exactly what I'd be doing. All just sensible decisions given you were out on your own and still recovering from a significant injury. But in other parts of the video, I also thought you were riding pretty quickly. There will always be riders on bigger youtube channels who would have gone faster, but your speed is nothing to be embarrassed about. You also make good, really watchable videos, so I'll be subscribing and looking out for more.

@@Xarboth1 Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely comment. I appreciate it and a lot of what you have said has resonated with me and I will bear this in mind. I absolutely love doing videos, I find it really mindful and therapeutic, it a real bonus is someone else enjoys them. I certainly hope to do more and I hope to explore some more natural trails in the Aberdeenshire area.
