The fact that the cast of this movie wasn't nominated for the Oscars is a travesty

Seriously, what a genuine smile! A lot of people have to train to smile, but the way he walk up, smiling out of control and not sure whether to put his hands into his pocket is so adorable and lovely to watch!

He crushed it in Beasts of no nations, he displayed a greater range of emotions than most adult actors. Look at some of these useless ass actors like in game of thrones who pout and over act and then take a look at the final scene from beasts of no nations. I was litteraly like how da fuck is he doing that, I actually thought it was real for a moment :O

I don't care about award shows but I'm glad he won, and how he and Idris didn't get nominated for an Oscar is weird.

+TheoKabala89 I'll tell you why. The members of the Academy are scared shitless of this Netflix revolution that is going on. No way in hell were they going to recognize a movie that was brought to us largely via a streaming service, especially if it's in direct competition with the larger Hollywood caliber movies. Fukunaga deserved to be recognized with a best director nod at the very least, he almost died during the filming of this movie and had to go through so much crap during shooting.

So what the explanation for Will Smith in Concussion, Michael B. Jordan in Creed, Ryan Coogler's director nod, F. Gary Gray's director nod for Straight Outta Compton, Jason Mitchell etc...? And fyi, Academy allows 10 nominees for Best Picture, yet they only filled 8 slots. Could have easily included Creed/ Straight Outta Compton or at least one. And Beasts of No Nation was really the first Netflix movie that got honored by major awards shows like Golden Globes, SAG, etc...they have no history of shunning based on some "Netflix bias". Hell, I remember Eddie Murphy won Golden Globe (which is usually an Oscar predictor) for Dreamgirls and was left out the Oscars, yet a guy who wasn't even nominated for a Golden Globe won instead of him. There's a pattern of selective exclusion, but it's not based on Netflix.

First of all, they don't have automatic 10 nominees for Best Picture anymore. That was only for the first two years of the expansion (2009, 2010). But now a film must get 5% of first-place rankings. This means that there could be between 5 and 10 films nominated. 2011, 2012, and 2013 had 9 Best Picture nominees, and 2014 and 2015 had 8. Who knows what will be next year? The reason they changed it was because in 2009 and 2010, they were forced to nominate exactly ten, which resulted in some dubious nominees. With the new 5% rule, the hope is that only the worthy films will receive a nod, even if it's just 5.

As for Best Actor, neither CONCUSSION nor Will Smith's performance were well-received, and the movie flopped. That really hurts an actor's chances. I agree that Michael B. Jordan was great in CREED, but there were other factors unrelated to his race -- his age and sex. Both male acting categories (Best Actor, Supporting Actor) are very competitive and skew older, compared with their female counterparts, who often get nominated (and win) for mediocre work and at such young ages. In other words, the Academy rarely nominates twentysomethings for Best Actor/Supporting Actor, and very few even win. For example, in the Academy's 88-year history, only one twentysomething has won Best Actor -- Adrien Brody for THE PIANIST (2002), and he barely made it, turning 30 two weeks later. Also, since 2000, only Brody (29), Heath Ledger in BROKEBACK MOUNTIAN (26), Ryan Gosling in HALF-NESLON (26), and Jesse Eisenberg in THE SOCIAL NETWORK (27) have been the only actors in their twenties to get a nomination. Only four. On the women's side, during the same time-frame, there have been 17 twentysmoethings, one teenager (13), and one child (9) who've been nominated for Best Actress. Five of them have won, more recently 26-year-old Brie Larson in ROOM. In fact, both last year's Best Actress (Larson) and Supporting Actress (Alicia Vikander, THE DANISH GIRL) winners were in their twenties, while Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio, THE REVENANT) and Supporting Actor (Mark Rylance, BRIDGE OF SPIES) are in their forties or fifties.

Yes, Eddie Murphy's loss for DREAMGIRLS was the ultimate upset, because he had nearly swept the industry awards. There are currently four precursor awards: Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, BFCA (aka Critics Choice), BAFTA. Murphy won the first three, while Alan Arkin (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE) won BAFTA, then went on to win the Oscar. You also have to remember that Arkin was a veteran (72 at the time) and had two previous nominations (THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING! THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING!, THE HEART IS A LONELY HUNTER), and has earned a subsequent nod (ARGO), whereas this was Murphy's first (and only so far). The Academy almost always awards the overdue veteran in the male supporting category.

Why did the commentator say he's a street vendor? Why again are non Africans trying to paint such an image of children in Africa, not saying that that isn't what some African children do. But Attah was playing football when he was picked up to play this role. Smh the people behind should have been more respectful and done more research on him.

Foolish commentator. It's like in America they intentionally pick people that are ignorant about Africa to make stupid comments. What is street vendor in Africa. First of all the kid is from Ghana. Tema, Ghana. Secondly he was not a street vendor. He was picked up playing football in his school yard
