My husband and I sang as part of today's 5/30/2022 Memorial Day service. It was so good to participate again now that the Covid restrictions have been lifted!

If you drive back even further into the cemetery, you can see the pavilions where they do the service + military honors before interment

I'm here at the cemetery and got here on my bike from the road you took off off Wauponsee Glacial Trail. There are dirt/ gravel roads all over this property. It was farmland yes but was taken over during the war and the thousands acres was the site of the Joliet Arsenal. The road system existed to get to the storage bunkers where explosives were stored. When the Arsenal was stricken from the records the land was divided. The Midewin National Tall Grass Prairie is the site now. You passed the sign when you went inside the yellow arm gates explaining that. More of the land became the Abraham Ntl. Cemetery. The rest is home of the 4th largest Intermodal site in the country! So actually there are 1 lane dirt roads that a hearse and funeral procession can come down...

The walls with the names are the columbarium. Behind each stone is an urn.

Thank you😊 Do they have a Mausoleum for the cremated bodies?

Not sure if they do, there’s walls with cremated bodies interred but an official mausoleum I don’t think so.

Hi there, this is a really beautiful video of Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. My friends and I will be going there on this Memorial Day weekend to place American flags on the military gravestones to honor America’s fallen soldiers. I live in Chicago, Illinois and I am getting really excited to go to this cemetery for the first time.
