Take an eye on Sivakov's Strava too. He posts every session with power data.

He is on the provisional for Alula Tour though, so it might be just for getting used to the heat there

Scary the power numbers he can sustain on a flat rolling course. No wonder he takes so much work to get back, when on one of his solo breaks.

Any thoughts why he is doing all the increasing 8x8 efforts?

Hey Charlie, can you investigate this guy's claims about putting on 15kg last year? No before/after photos exist as far as I can see and - if anything - he looks more lean now than he did in the old photos I *could* find, around 2020/21. So even if he's just put on muscle, how is that possible in only a year? It all seems a bit fishy to me, like he's covering up for something else... Everyone is buying this story automatically but there's no proof that it happened.

I don't think he did that in one year. He has talked about how he had some rough periods on the team while doing the transistion of becoming heavier and more powerful.

@mrfillebojj5731 Even if it's several years, it doesn't add up. I'm pretty sure it was portrayed as a year (approx) in the GCN interview.

@@philadams9254 I thought the claim was more that he'd suppressed the full extent of his puberty. He said that once he started eating more he gained muscle and sex drive etc. We see this in women and girls who eat too little, they lose their periods - so it doesn't seem totally far fetched.

Why is he doing 5x20min at LT1? That ain't gonna do sh* for an elite-level rider. You need to be doing 45-60 min uninterrupted chunks minimum IMO. He's on the turbo so it's not like he doesn't have the terrain for it...

Being a pro your LT1 is that much closer to LT2-value so I'd suspect that the effort still is quite stressful. An amateur sure would probably have found it more difficult because they wouldn't be used to the work but perhaps the higher percentage of LT2 that the LT1 of a pro is set at would make up for this difference. Just a thought!

@mrfillebojj5731 I wouldn't use the word "stressful". Dr Stephen Seiler has talked about LT1 quite a bit and remarked that the pro riders' lactate curve moves to the right on the chart (as expected) but also moves down bizarrely, so their LT1 would be less stressful than an untrained person in theory. Also, LT1 doesn't always move higher and sometimes goes down - it depends on muscle fibre type makeup.

@@philadams9254 I imagine the fact that it's a high absolute number still has an effect. Like how weight lifters have to be careful as joints or ligaments etc can only take so much. A 5 rep max when you can deadlift 80kg isn't the same as a 5 rep max of like 450kg.
