We are in the process of restoring the Abram C. Fisk house in Coldwater, Michigan. This Italianate home is believed to have been built in the 1840s. The original estate, Maple Park, was 160 acres and included a race track that ran through the front yard of the house. The home is listed with the National Register of Historic Places and is believed to have originally been part of the Underground Railroad.

Thank you! I grew up in the house at 200 W. Pearl, and am sickened by how many of the wonderful old houses were torn down through the years. I watched East Chicago street go from a neighborhood of stately old houses to concrete and junk, wondering every time I return for a visit "How long before the Fisk House is demolished too?" I am almost in tears, feeling so grateful that you are restoring that wonderful old place. Someone in COldwater DOES get it!

@mikepattersonjr This house is on US 12, East Chicago Street, 1/4 mile East of I-69. It is the only residence left in a commercial area and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The roof leaked several years ago. We eventually found the source of the leak and fixed it. All of the first floor rooms have been re-plastered and we are now working on all of the second floor plaster. The cupola walkway was pulled off this week and we are in the process of repairing that.

I remember the white dog in the front yard as a kid. I think it was cement or maybe metal? It's always been a mystery as to who stole it. Very sad...

I've been curious about Coldwater! I've seen some amazingly beautiful houses there for very reasonable prices, but it bothers me that I can't see the town on googlemaps, especially West Pearl Street!

Dog was manufactured in zinc at the end of the 19th Century by J. W. Fiske Company of New York City. I'm hoping to find one at auction or will have one custom made after we open for business in late 2012.
