After spending a lot of money in restoration Mr. Cottrell retired and admitted he struggled to fund needed care for the home over many years. Former restoration suffered. It was a lucky day for this home that Randy came along and saved this home and brought it back to it's glory through his love of saving older homes. He was able to incorporate the work already done with new restoration giving his tribute to Mr. Cottrell. Just an amazing job! Thank you for caring and putting your loving touch to this home Randy.

Richard was a dear family friend and he is missed dearly. I spent much of my childhood in Clarksville, MO, watching as Richard restored parts of this beautiful home and I love seeing that it is being cared for and how far the restorations have come, even after his passing. I think that the work Randy and Tara have done has truly made it into the home Richard would have wanted it to be.

Richard did all the designing for this house; however, when we purchased the house, it was in very bad shape. I am so happy to get the house back to where Richard would have left it. This will always be Richard’s home in my eyes.

I think this is my favorite of the completed houses I’ve seen to date on your channel. There have been far grander homes and they’re spectacular, but this one speaks to me. It’s so beautifully restored that you can almost believe it has always been in this condition and never in need of all that work. It’s such a rare joy to see such lovely craftsmanship be restored through equally lovely craftsmanship. It’s so clearly a labor of love. The wallpapers, the paint colors, the stenciling and the faux finishes downstairs are perfection - the foyer, the dining room and the sitting room are particular favorites of mine. Upstairs, I particularly loved the paper and the colors in what was thought to be the maid’s room. And that river view from the first bedroom is magnificent! I’m always particularly interested in lighting fixtures and wish there had been different choices made there. But that gives the new owner a means by which to put his or her (or their) imprint on this home. What a wonderful find, Ken!

This is really amazing house. Love all the ornate wall and ceiling paint, borders and moldings. Lovely staircase. Can't beat a gorgeous staircase with ornate balusters and posts that draws you upwards as u climb the stairs. It would be interesting to see the blue print of the original floor plan after the 2nd half of the house was added. I love how back in the 19 century people would build a modest house (for the time), and as the family grew or the family gain more wealth they would add on to the back of the house. Certain things were simpler in those times. Need more room, slap on some more yardage..lol there was always land to accommodate it. Can u imagine what it was like in this house say 1860. The views of the mighty Mississippi river at that time would have been incredible. I bet the gardens just rolled right down to it's banks.

What a wonderful house, I’d like to know how much they are asking for it. I love the faux finish baseboards that is so deliciously Victorian. I also love the assorted wallpapers throughout the house they are really beautiful and tastefully done. I wonder if any of the furnishings will be bargained for in the sale. I could really see myself living there although it appears there is only one bathroom and I don’t know whether or not the house has central air which would be a deal breaker if you had no ac. I’d love it if you showed the basement as there are probably some real gems down there being that the original kitchen was located there. I can’t think of anything I would change if I lived there, I would like to know how big the lot is and the landscaping, as well as parking. Is the house set on a lot with close neighbors in a townhouse kind of style or is it more private, is it on a busy street. Or a quiet one. It was nice to get to meet the owners and hear their rich history with restoration of so many homes, my hat is off to anyone that brings these homes back to life in the condition they were built for. I can’t tell you how sad it makes me to see a beautiful historic house that someone has gutted out and turned into an open floor plan and ditched the butlers pantry in order to make a modern larger kitchen. If I lived in one of these homes I would want my kitchen to be as period accurate as possible, not to the point of a coal burning stove but something like the magic chef kitchen, what a dream that house is. Well thank you again for another lovely tour , you do such a great job showing off all the original details and you are so well informed. I did crack up when you said “as we pass out of the bathroom” all I could do was giggle thinking of you passing out from it. Lol 😂 see you next time, your number one fans ChuckandMax

LOL hopefully none of us faint while filming! It was amazing to see the house fully restored with a kitchen and bathroom that match the aesthetic of the house! We put all of the technical information in the video description (the zillow link) which has information about the lot size, heating/cooling, etc. There are a few rooms that we did not show: a laundry room, 1st floor bathroom, and the full basement. The house sits on a very quiet, short street in a small town about a 40 minute drive from St. Louis. We are so glad that you both loved the tour and appreciate you watching our videos!

Most of the windows are original to the house. There is a detached garage, and a small basement below the kitchen. This house sold quickly to a person who intends to open it as a House Museum.

I love the video tour. Love your other videos, too. But you keep saying "box archway". That's literally not a thing. It's just a doorway or passageway. Archways are passages beneath an arch. Arches are, by definition, curved structures. If they're not curved, they're not arches. Ergo, not archways.
@ThisHouse
@ThisHouse 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. A “box archway” is common slang for a Flat Arch. We have uploaded a handy guide to identifying the various types of archways in a post that you can find in our community tab.
