Normally dating apps are designed to keep you in the loop, running towards the (sexy) carrot they hang in front of you, instead of actually making couples, as such they are incredible money generator and really poor dating tools. This however is government run and does not has to generate profit and they will obviously design it to prioritise natality rates. Whatever data comes out of it will be really interesting to take a peek at.

In addition, when single men were asked how many people they had dated since graduation from junior high school, 39.8% of those in their twenties and 34.1% of those in their thirties answered “zero.” In contrast, among the single women with no dating experience, 25.1% were in their twenties and 21.5% were in their thirties, indicating that romantically men were more likely to be late bloomers.

17:13 Helicopters have auto rotation in case of a loss of power. Like a plane that can glide without thrust the rotors of a helicopter start spinning from air resistance and act like a pseudo parachute that slows the decent enough to make a hard yet mostly survivable landing. The chances of losing power in any aircraft are very low with proper maintenance.
@mfaizsyahmi7 ай бұрын
This. The high profile crashes are those where the choppers were already flying too close to the ground and buildings that auto-rotation couldn't take effect. For many many routine sightseeing flights they're well above the danger zone (in addition to ATC not permitting close flybys.) I guess irrational fears just can't be easily persuaded.

From what I have learned, Japanese culture places a strong emphasis on values that encourage giving your all and self-improvement. For example, "ganbatte", which is often translated as "good luck" in anime, actually means something along the lines of, "always do your best". There is also the concept of "kaizen", which means to continuously improve to the next level. I learned about this from a book called Kintsugi Wellness, written by Candice Kumai.

Considering dating apps purpose is to suck money from lonely young men, this disincentivizes them from actually quickly finding a partner and sticking with them. They want you on that app scrolling and viewing ads, paying for premium services. I'm not someone who wants government involved in peoples lives to a great degree, but if dating must be done online (real talk: church is the best place to find a good girlfriend), having the government do it makes a certain degree of sense.
@creaper35387 ай бұрын
yea I agree. Dating apps just want to make money and make you stay on the app. The government doesn't have these goals and just wants people to meet, which is the whole purpose of dating apps. That with the extra verification means that, catfishing shouldn't be an issue (in theory). I don't think this will solve the birth rate issue as a whole though, but it's one step.
@martijnkoning33547 ай бұрын
Church is not great if you're not Christian
@ayoCC7 ай бұрын
@@creaper3538 a government needs to act in ways to slash problems in chunks. If they can cut down the birthrate problem by 20%, that's a 20% success. I think if the government can provide these services while hiring like 5 devs at 70k a year (40k take home?) and some 15 supporting staff at 30k (20k take home) for like managing a ticket system and saving the devs time from doing menial tasks that is a waste of dev time. And we sort of stay below 1 million a year in costs somehow. If it can get like 1000 pairs to find each other and get children, it pays for itself in tax revenue, since an average person contributes 10k in taxes a year.

I agree with Chris! I went up Shibuya Scramble when it first opened, and the only good vantage points were two places that you had to queue for! Mori tower has a train museum and floor to ceiling windows. Great location. So nice. Also my favorite. As for the Donki Ferris wheel in Osaka, I've been on it before, way back in the early 2000s. My husband was terrified of it, but went with me. Apparently he was right, because they shut it down for several years, after discovering that it had a design fault that could cause the cars to... fall off! 😮 They redesigned and reopened it several years ago now. I wanted to take my current husband on it, and we were all set to go... but it was closed due to a typhoon coming in (which we raced back from Osaka to Tokyo before too). I think it generally suffers from high winds and they have to close it for safety reasons at the slightest gust!

Helicopters actually do just gently fall down if the engine stops working because the wind going past the rotors as you fall will make them spin again (but not restart the engine). Saw a show a few years ago where the pilot just shut off the engine in mid-air

I honestly wonder if Japanese dedication to their hobbies (if its not in actuality an illusion or stereotype), might in some ways come from the fact that their military is strictly used for self-defense, or that their population is largely racially homogenous. As if minding the world's affairs and prejudice/racism are actually just distractions, and without them, the people turn their attentions towards following their personal interests, self-development, and standing out from a crowd instead. When you can't hate your neighbor b/c of how they look, and your country has nothing to gain on the world stage militarily, how else can you spend your life? It's like they've lost the ability to follow the two most toxic sports in the whole world, and have to fill the void with something else. I love America's diversity, but I do wonder what would happen to the people here if suddenly racism wasn't an issue, or we didn't have to worry about what every other country was doing in the world. I want to make it clear I am aware that Japan still has problems with racism and tribalism btw (especially against foreigners?). Also, I have no credentials as an anthropologist or anything. This is just idle speculation from a layperson.

There is a sort of "death zone" in a helicopter, I think it's between 10 and 30 meters and only hovering, where you'll fall like a rock and get badly injured. However, above 30 meters, you can push the helicopter forward and go into a dive and get autorotation (how gyrocopters work!) and flair and land more or less safely. Helicopters are very safe, and possibly THE MOST COMFORTABLE way to fly except for the noise. I only rode on helicopters in the army, and we flew "tactical", and it was supposed to feel sort of like a rollercoaster, but honestly, it was just the softest ride I'd ever had. No shakes, no sudden changes in gravitational pull. Just comfortable. HIGHLY recommended! On another note, I think the two most dangerous ways to fly (statistically) are gliders and paragliders. Gliders, because you get too close to mountains trying to catch an updraft, and get the wrong wind instead and crash, paragliders because the canopy has a tendency to collapse with the wrong kind of gust.

Helicopters DO glide though even with no powers to the engine, just like airplanes, but in a different manner using the auto rotation of the rotors. Essentially while going downwards the rotors will rotate in a way that generates lift (due to the air passing through them), and this slows down the descent enough for a hard but survivable landing.

13:17 This is something I find issue with these days. Not because I care if women work or not, but because in no country where that is made the "solution" has it been shown to actually increase birthrates. Similar to bringing in migrants instead of solving the cultural/social/workplace/financial issues causing the issue. Even the framing of "choosing between a career and a family," because "career" almost makes it sound more glamorized when in reality, most people's jobs suck. Sure, if you are going to be a doctor, a graphic designer, a IT professional, etc. then you probably would desire that, but someone stuck as a cashier, a shelf stocker, etc.? I get the idea of "if we make work easier, people will be more likely to have kids" and theoretically it makes sense. But it seems like there are too many variables which stand in the way of that such as when both sides can work and live on their own, why take on the responsibility of a serious relationship as well as kids? There are also other issues like: - Differing expectations of division of labor. - Differing expectations of values. - Expectations of income - etc
