Nice video :-) My XJ X350 was showing intermittent ABS failures, so checking on the ODB showed ABS failures on the right rear wheel. After removing the sensor I found some polishing on one area on the toothed ABS rotor, showing that it was rubbing against the sensor, but only in one place. Apparently this is caused by rust getting behind the rotor and forcing it to expand unevenly. I just cleaned up the old sensor, used a wire brush on the rotor to clean it up, washed everything down and then reinstalled the sensor, but shimmed it out with a simple washer to increase the gap between the sensor and the rotor, but only by about 1mm. My ABS issues are now a thing of the past 🙂

Hi Robert, great video my friend. The ABS, traction & stability lights came up on my beloved '98 XJR. Local dealer went into doom & gloom mode quoting big bucks. Followed your instruction and boom, lights went out immediately & haven't come back! I can't tell you how happy I am!!! For reference to others, I cleaned up all 4 sensors inside one hour. Wheels off one by one. Front right was wedged in tight, but some WD40 & a lot of wiggling about got it out. Quite a simple job really. Many thanks from the UK & good luck with your new POTUS!

Nice Vid Robert - this problem is the infamous broken solder joint on the ABS module - it produces exactly the syptoms you described at the start of the video. Remove cover (not an easy job) and you will almost certainly see the main connector to the circuit board broken - little bit of solder and job done. Info was very useful for those looking to clean/fix wheel sensors. Keep em comin!
@RobertDIY11 жыл бұрын
Yes I did end up removing the module and solder the two power leads. I did not open the box, just drilled 2 small holes in it where the connector goes in (top side) and soldered through the holes. It was easier drilling the small holes than trying to tear open the top. I linked a video to it in the comment section. Thanks for the information. Great common sense, down to earth, easy to understand vid's. Great job Robert! I found a 2002 Jaguar XJ8 with 52000 actual miles. Fantastic car with quality like nothing I've ever seen or owned. Your vid's are a great help to cover things that I need to replace or know about the "basics" of this vehicle. Thank you!! Bill Whitsell, Whitesville, KY

Hey Bill, good to read that you found a nice one. I like the Volvo 960 which is a comparable vehicle. I found one of them 11 years old with 53,000 miles on it. Man that thing was nice. I'm about to do a front brake job in the next day or two. I have a brake job video already up that will work on these cars. ATE calipers.

Great video Robert. This could save someone heaps of cash instead of putting a jag through a main dealer. Here in the UK a "abs" light on is a instant MOT fail. One little thing Jaguar is actually spoken as "Jag U R". They are great cars esp in supercharged form. Enjoying your new videos. Thanks buddy.

I should point out if your battery is low the ABS light will come on in the same way you described. If you trickle charge the battery or take it for a long drive you can cure the problem. I often go away for several weeks and frequently have the problem. Trickle charge solves it. It’s a jaguar problem

@RobertDIY3 жыл бұрын
How can I help you with that?
@janpalm48622 жыл бұрын
I have no answer to your codes and transmission, but a thing to try first is to loosen the minus cable on the battery. Then wait for a couple of hours and reconnect. Next thing to try is to loosen both the plus and minus cables and put the cables together for some seconds, then reconnect them to the battery. And as always, check the battery and change to a new one if needed.

Hi Robert, I'm having an ABS trac light on with my 1996 Volvo 850 t5. At first, the ABS light would come on when the module was hot. As per your recommendation I sent my module to Midwest ABS and Matt fixed the problem that was causing the light to come on when the unit would get hot. Since then, Volvo replaced the drivers side CV axle and spliced the wheel sensor wire using a Butt connection. Matt said that I have to solder the connection which I did. But the light is still coming on. Any suggestions. Thank you, Paul. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Back to winter to sit down with a cup of tea and watch your videos to learn every nut and bolt in my Volvo.

Hey Robert do you know where to find the ABS Relay in 2001 Jaguar XJR??? My ABS pump won't shut off when the ignition is off so I pulled the switch out of the Module to turn off so doesn't kill battery. I cannot find where the Relay is. I want to see if it is faulty and that's why power continues to be sent to the ABS pump/Module . Let me know what you think?? Thanks...

well that was simple enough car has same issue & been in storage for winter so this is tomorrows project. the other issue is left cam sensor is leaking oil through the crimp on sensor itself ! I may only clean all oil residue & work a gas & oil tank repair paste around the seam in hope to cure the issue. Don't want to remove the whole valve cover assembly to replace the sensor as it's fine otherwise.

This guy knows his shit. I usually clean the sensors once a year, but I spray some alloy cleaner on a rag and rub the sensors clean. I'm not to keen on putting vaseline on the connectors, though. If you put a little to much on it and get it in the connector, you'll foul up the contacts.
