She gets wounded, end up in the hospital. Bruce rushes to the hospital but she dies before he can get to her. He's filled with remorse and RAGE, bursting out of the hospital not caring about the deal--kaching! Turns out the week had just ended just as Bruce was about to burst out of the hospital and so he gets the notification that hundreds of millions of dollars have been donated into his account. And Bruce feels like Judas and he gets blind stinking drunk. His friends catch up to him, after hearing news of the deputy mayor's death and they drag him, forcibly, with great effort home. Selina draws the short straw and stays overnight to watch over him. Bruce wakes around noon with a major hangover headache and in his boxers. Selina had stripped off his clothes, soaked in booze, and put them in a the wash. Selina tells him she could take the day off to watch over him but he insists he's fine. She tells him she made a pot of coffee and she'll go to work for the half day and leaves. Bruce barely pours a cuppa when the doorbell rings. Bruce opens it to see Pennyworth, looking from waving at Selina as her bus arrives at the bus stop, and then apologizing, not realizing Bruce would take solace with a ladyfriend only for Bruce to drop his cup and bodily drags Pennyworth inside and slam the door. As the bus leaves we see glimpses through the windows of the fist fight going on. Inside Alfred stops and says he quit his agency and is willing to help Bruce as penance for his mom's death. His skills are Bruce's. He works for Bruce, no charge.

Batman makes morally questionable decisions all the time, like Keeping the Joker and his other villains alive, having contingencies against his friends and himself (that have backfired seriously many times in the comics I.e. Tower of Babel and Failsafe). Recruits children to fight with him even after one was tortured and died.
