47 went from looking like a paper mache mask in the first couple of games, to looking like aging Voldemort in Absolution, to being a photo model level handsome in the latest trilogy. Now that's character development.

the thing that's a little weird is that they've de-aged him quite a bit. 47 is *supposed to be* 58yrs old, but in the trilogy they sort of de-age him to 35-40. Which is Fine, but it seems weird to me. I would love a game where 47 is depicted as properly older, but i know that probably won't happen
@kamikazehound3243

@@phoenixelysiaI think the trilogy is suppose to act as a reboot in a way. 47 having the tattoo on the back of his head is proof of that since 47 scraped it off the back of his head in absolution.

Fun fact: there was so much turmoil with IOI and (I think) their parent company at the time they were developing Hitman 2 (2018) that it ALMOST got shelved. This is one of the reasons they had to save their budget for the gameplay and have still cutscenes. The game is so well polished outside of that that most people would never realise. Glad it did well and gave IOI the independence they needed to make more Hitman!

I was really intrigued by Lucas Grey and how different he is from 47. He has hair, a beard, a NAME! And a specific accent. I never played the games, but it's cool to see how Lucas has somewhat 'normalized' over the years, whereas 47 still seems fresh out of the test tube by comparison.

I like that Arthur was more scared of losing who is than actually dying. In a way it is like dying without actually dying, like killing someone's soul but their body still lives. If you kill him, he dies having everything, being at his highest point in life, but injecting him ends up with him living the rest of his life at his lowest point having nothing. The assassin shows there are fates worse than death.

Something about the Constant's voice just hits a sweet spot for me. Dramatic enough to fit in with the super cinematic angle the new trilogy took, but also has a little bit of scheming cartoon evil to resemble cheesy 2000's game villains. That's a sentiment I find pretty consistent through the whole series. Every entry seems to be just cheesy enough to come off as self aware, while still keeping you interested in the fiction. I love it.

26:54 [CODENAME 47] is one of the most tragic characters of gaming. He's a professional, the best of the best in this world. He was literally designed to kill. As such, he can never really retire as a Silent Assassin and start a new life without endangering the normal people he's close to. Father Vittorio is the proof of that fact and Agent 47 has no choice but to accept that fate. So rather than endanger his friend any longer, 47 gave up on trying to find Absolution and sticks to what he's good at. _Assasinations. Contracts. And Blood Money..._

Damn thats crazy i didnt know 47 had an opiate addiction. Having struggled with it a long time myself due to chronic backpain thats super relatable. His discription of the withdrawals is spot on too i get the exact same symptoms the vivid nightmares and anxiety are the worst part honestly i can deal with physical pain but mental pain and distress is fucked. I can totally see why 47 would have a very hard time getting clean especially when you've had a super traumatic life on top of pain that needs killing. Thats literally the exact situation im in, its so wierd I've played hitman my whole life and always felt such a deep connection with 47. Finding out we share the same addiction to deal with our pain and trauma just makes so much sense its a trip to think about. This reminds me of a quote from a interview with 47's voice actor David Bateson where he basically was saying 47 started off as a fictional emotionless programed killing machine but over the years through the shared experiences and soul of everyone who has ever worked on 47, played the game, lived in his shoes, and became 47 he has become real. He is the sum of everyone whos lives he has been a part of. Hes full of humanity, thought, belief, soul, and emotion. 47 is as much a part of us as we are a part of him. He is more than any one person he is an immortal entity of collective consciousness. Love to anyone who reads this, Happy Hunting. Amazing video btw top notch

I also love how Freelancer offers a perfect bookend to the series, but also leaves it open for future installments. 47 has what he wanted at the end of the first game: Peace, his yellow bird, but he also still has purpose. Combatting the power vacuum left by Providence and the ICA. In my instance, he's taken out thousands of targets and toppled hundreds of syndicates. I can't stop playing, but when that day comes, 47 will live on in peace fishing on his dock, presumably having Diana over for dinner, plinking in his gun range, playing his cello, painting his shed, tending to his garden...bombing around the valley in his gilded helicopter he got at the copart auction in Dubai after the events of the first level of Hitman 3, taking fishing trips on Silvio Caruso's float plane, driving mountain roads in Dino Bosco's Alfa Romeo...that makes me happy. Then one day, the next entry in the series will be announced and we'll be back in the saddle for a new threat. But if that day never comes, I feel happy for the life 47 will lead for eternity in my absence.

The Silent Assassin is my favorite story of them all. the colorful graphics complimented with variety of locations across the world make it feel like you are in a James Bond movie. plus the story arch, it's quite similar to MGR, in the way where both 47 and Raiden look for redeption and humanity in themselves, but throughout their journey they instead find to accept and embrace their true nature

I was missing a bit of Trivia, that Janus was mentioned in "The Final Test". The recreation of Soders own contract in 1979, where it was mentioned that your target "Jasper Knight" and his handler "Cilas Netzke" and the previously defected Soviet ambassador were all working for Janus. or that you could have found Agent Smith in Hokkaido, in a freezer unit.

This is incredibly well done. As someone that is a huge fan of the series (played them since I was a kid, always needing to silent assassin every mission) this lore explanation should be considered the go to. I wasn't aware of the comics or some of the very niche games so good to see what from the lore those had. Thanks for putting this out!

I love that you can see the efforts to keep up with current action and mystery genre pop culture throughout the games. The first one can almost be called action packed relative to the more stealthy considerations of the other games while the world of assassination has notes of the Craig Bond films, Mission Impossible and even a level that bears a resemblance to Knives Out.
