Absolute Beginner's Guide Part 15 - Spike Variety
It's time to take our game dev skills up a level! We left off with half our spikes spawning facing the wrong direction, and all the spikes coming out the same. Now we're going to learn how to customize the specific instances of spikes in our game, resize them, orient them properly, and change their sprites randomly. Exciting stuff!

14:43 //Array_length returns the value of how many entries it has. In this video's case it's 4 (0,1,2,3) . //It will then randomly pick 1 of those 4 numbers as an integer and store it in _getRandomSprite. var _getRandomSprite = irandom(array_length(spikes)); //We access our spike's sprite index and apply our local variable's value into it. spike.sprite_index = _getRandomSprite; This will make your code dynamically resize if you add more spike sub-images. That way you don't have to constantly return to the step event to modify your local "index" variable.
