I recently found out an old RaceFace Isis drive bb tool fits the cinch lockring perfectly! I was glad I didnt have to buy another tool.

Thanks this will be helpful. I have an AB oval on my road bike and I DO notice a difference there. I am considering one for my MTB. Used to live in Evergreen, Calgary. I thought I noticed an Alberta Accent.

What was the final verdict on this product? Are you still using today - was there a follow-up video I missed? I just bought two, one for the misses and one for me. Didn't install yet, so if it is just bike jewelry, I would rather save the energy.

My first mountain bike in 1986 had an oval chain ring. It was called cycloid. I don't know if it made any difference in my riding ability.
@MitchOnTwoWheels2 жыл бұрын
Probably not 😂. Good memory though.
@Philipparteric6 жыл бұрын
I put mine on yesterday and it works. I ride a hill which is straight up and straight down so the climbing was effecting my knees. I went down to a 28T from a 30T, which of course helped since I have a 1 x 11 42T, but I could feel the Oval working in my favor on the climbs. It really helps on the technical rocky climbs also👍

+Steven Lengyel definitely! I notice better traction on bumpy climbs. The weird feeling of kind of a bumpy cadence has gone away... now it's all power all the time. I plan on putting these on some of my other bikes as well.

This is a standard chainring, although they make the exact same thing with boost spacing.

I'm just about to replace an RF ring with an AB pretty much the same as you but I find the AB chainline to be 2-3 mm more inboard than the standard RF ring... did you have any issues with that? From my Googling it seems my XX1 cassette wants 49 mm and the RF Next SL cinch has 51 mm so maybe the AB will put it where it should have been all along. I've never had an issue with the stock chainline though and honestly in 1x11 its all crosschain anyway. I'm typically only torqueing on the top 4 cogs anyway.
@MitchOnTwoWheels7 жыл бұрын
+boodoodoo2 Hey! Shoot an email to AB. For some reason I'm thinking you can mount it a few different ways? I haven't had any issues and my chainline is centred. Perhaps spacing the cranks helped this on my end? Not sure.
@boodoodoo27 жыл бұрын
MitchOnTwoWheels already done. They figure inboard is better and offered a return and lesser offset for the boost version if it's unused. I'll probably give it a try I just thought your situation was analogous so was fishing for if you had any issues. Tell tale difference is when you lay the RF and the AB on the counter the difference in offset is obvious.
@MitchOnTwoWheels7 жыл бұрын
+boodoodoo2 Interesting how Boost spacing throws things off... I'm sure AB will sort things out as needed. Im surprised Boost makes this subtle of a difference. You taught me something new today.
@boodoodoo27 жыл бұрын
MitchOnTwoWheels the boost version is a 3 mm offset vs 6 mm for std cinch. Anyway I mounted it and it works fine no issues on the stand and should be fine all around. Little cog rides fine too. I did find the spline interface a little sloppy though. Lots of play, not a tight fit. Hopefully that's not a long term issue waiting to happen. Rides fine. Thanks for your feedback.

Tried one, and after the "it's better because I bought it" feeling wore off, I R&R'd it and sold it for a slight loss..... Didn't care for how it felt at higher cadences, and it abused my RD's clutch too.
@MitchOnTwoWheels8 жыл бұрын
+ThunderStruckCoach valid points... I find climbing with the clutch disengaged to be helpful. I'm never spinning a climb more than 90 RPM and have since gotten used to how to sprint with it... I'm glad you tried it out and gave it your true opinion. No hate here.

sounds about right. there's a reason no one uses oval chainrings, it's because they're awful
@manabiker Жыл бұрын
A 32t round, vs a 32t oval is an unfair advantage, I call a 32t oval a part time 34t because of the height.. just go from a 32t round to a 34t round and you'll see a good improvement.. people changing from a 32t round to a 32t oval should see a difference, its TRICKNOLOGY !!! it sells stuff, I'm waiting for oval wheels...;) !!!

As I look at this oval chain wheel, This must be utilizing the Isochronous curve, Isochronous, Meaning in Greak, Same speed curve. This will affect the cadence of pedaling on a bycicle. Very interesting mine friend, Who put this Idear to gether.

I asked because I bought a 32 thinking my front was a 32 it is actually a 30 so I'm wondering if I should return it and get a 30
@MitchOnTwoWheels8 жыл бұрын
+BuckeyeMCS I have friends who have jumped up 2T count and not have any issues with feeling bogged down. You have to remember that it's an engineered pedal stroke, and will feel significantly harder in the hard spot, and significantly easier on the back stroke. A lot of people jump up 2T going oval from a round ring. You'll love it.
@BuckeyeMCS8 жыл бұрын
I am going to try the 32T. I have the RaceFace Aeffect and I for the life of me cant figure out how to get the crank off. I removed the bolt. On yours it looks like a self extracting bolt. Mine is not, evidently.

@AlexeiPavlov8 жыл бұрын
That is incorrect installation as far as placing the oval against the crank - look at crank perpendicular to the floor, you should have the Ring as flat as possible because that is where the "dead spot" is.
@MitchOnTwoWheels8 жыл бұрын
+Alex Pavlov Absolute black has my same installation on their website. I see your thought, but it's just slightly off how they recommend installation.

I don't get it...unless you are a one legged rider, when you are on the upstroke on the one pedal, you are pushing on the other. so having fewer teeth then hurts. Just because it is the other side of the crank being pushed doesn't mean it isn't providing power to the drivetrain.
