Good to see some ‘proper’ wargames getting played here again! Look forward to seeing how it plays out.

It looks like a pretty robust system. I probably won't use it all that much, since I don't have to worry about balance. I'm still trying to figure out what sort of odds, point wise, you need to give the attacker to overcome the defender's advantage.

@@TheJoyofWargaming I’ve concluded that most for most rules 3:2 or perhaps 2:1 is the magic number. 3:1 is a walk over and 1:1 all but impossible. With Absolute Emperor you at least have manoeuvre space so I think you’ll get interesting games in which the attacker will get an opportunity to concentrate. In a 2 player game I’d use blinds to achieve surprise so perhaps a card driven deployment would work for solo play?

Thanks for doing these Absolute Emperor videos! Am going to play your Mincio river scenario.

Had this video on the "Watch later" list for a year. But it was worth it. 👍

When ever I finally get my figures built, 28mm, this rule set should work fine. Just need to buy it. Table 4'x6'.

Only have infantry so far. French, Brits, n Prussians.

The timing of it might prove to be tricky... but there could be an opportunity for the French on the British left flank. If their single cavalry unit goes to the right of the large woods in their front. In the meantime, the French infantry advances and takes up a defensive position in the center. The French artillery bangs away at any targets of opportunity. Once the cavalry are in a position to outflank the British, a frontal charge from the infantry will pin them in place. The British infantry line will be rolled up... and the British cavalry... caught on the wrong flank... will trot off the battlefield!

Say, that's a pretty good strategy. I might have to record a Battle of Big Hill 2, and see how that plays out...
@martinmeltzer26962 жыл бұрын
@@TheJoyofWargaming It would be "interesting" to see if it would work... as planned. It would place the British on the horns of a dilemma. If they "refuse" their leftmost infantry unit to meet the French Cavalry, they create a "hinge" in their line that will be vulnerable to attack by the two French Infantry. While all that is going on, the French Artillery, and the remaining third French Infantry, with their flanks well anchored by the woods to the left and right, "contain" the British Cavalry and keep them from intervening from events happening on the left! If the British Cavalry decides to charge them... then they will take fearsome casualties for their boldness.

This is quite a hard rule book to get your head around. For instance how dothe tabs work at the back of the book. I've watched your videos battle of bumsvile 1 and 2 and a video from someone else and the tabs arnt being used so I'm confused. The explanation in the book is quite weak. Great vid by the way

Rumor has it the author is working on a Second Edition outside the Osprey Mediocrity Complex. Hopefully with some expanded scenarios and clear revisions.

Might as well use chits

There was an old Avalon Hill game that was precisely that: a miniatures ruleset for Napoleonic wargaming that included chits and and paper terrain as substitutes.

I use 54mm, this rules set may not work for me
@TheJoyofWargaming2 жыл бұрын
You just need a much bigger table. Now you have an excuse to get it. In all seriousness, the set includes measurements for fifty-fours. The standard move/fire for foot becomes 8-inches. Cannons fire 12"/36". Boyd doesn't give base sizes at all. he just recommends a 4:3:1 frontage ratio for horse:foot:guns.

@@TheJoyofWargaming that is good news. I will have to look at the rules I have 6’x16' table now and it is going to 20'
