I really like the wooden console cabinet that you made shaker doors for, added blue paint, a top, feet, ring door pulls, brass sprayed door hinges, and baskets in the shelf above the doors. This piece cost what, $60 total, and looks like a Pottery Barn or William & Sonoma $700 - $900 piece! I love it!
@janboll71744 жыл бұрын
For the blue unit - I like how you explained how to use the tools - easy to understand for those that haven't used those types of tools yet not too boring for those who have. Also so glad you didn't 'distress' the paint. I feel 'distressed' when people do that - I always think that when something is distressed it means that the item needs to be fixed up because it looks worn out.
@designedtothenines4 жыл бұрын
Totally understand… Sometimes I like to distress and sometimes I don’t. I guess it just depends on my mood and where it’s going. LOL! Thanks for watching.☺️💕

Your blue shelf is so pretty. I’m glad that you’re showing women that they can use power tools. They really aren’t that intimidating. Boy you weren’t kidding about the chest being different when you finished. It reminds me of the Hollywood glam look with the mirrors. Excellent job on that old bench! It had to be from the 80’s. It’s seriously impossible to pick a favorite. I absolutely love every one of them!!! I agree completely about central Florida thrift stores. As a longtime DIY-er, I suggest you wash your upholstery fabric for slipcovers before you make anything. It WILL shrink which is a bummer after all your hard work. Buy approximately 1/2 yard extra, plus extra if you need to match stripes, or pattern repeat. Yes, a bit of extra work, but you'll be glad you did. I iron, starch,and Scotchguard the fabric, then sew. Even when the upholstery fabric says 'dry clean only' I wash it. The only upholstery fabric I don't wash is silk or rayon, but those are pretty high-end, so I rarely use them.. Great channel, great ideas. I like especially how you show the "why" of doing something a certain way which is great if someone hasn't done that technique before. I can't wait to try some of your great techniques and ideas!

I am 69 and have totally missed the letter machine phenomenon; I was wondering why the same cursive fonts are used over and over on signage and graphics for sale on Etsy. Now I see why SO many people decorate with word signs rather than actual art or art prints; they don't actually design and paint all that signage. It's cut out and stuck on. Young homemakers (not you necessarily): develop a hobby or two and MAKE things with which to slowly decorate. You don't need expensive machines. Often such tools are simple -- needles, brushes, paints, yarn, and such. Your particular skill seems to be woodworking and that's great. LOVED the blue shelf-cabinet. Learn to embroider, make quilts, paint, sew your drapes or curtains and your throw pillows, braid or weave a rug, work with wood -- make something that takes some skill, and time to develop, that is beautiful and possibly utilitarian, and that can be passed down to your children. You don't have to have a farmhouse style of decor -- mostly in white ala Joanne Gaines. Boy, does that get old fast and it's why so much texture is needed to counteract it, with shiplap, throw pillows and chunky afghans, and the mixed metals in black, copper, bronze, nickel, etc. Go your own way instead of slavishly copying her style. Make your home an expression of YOU, your family, your interests. Another thing that I wonder about with the young homemakers on youtube videos who show off their homes: where are your family's beloved books? I treasure one of my grandmother's small paintings in a naive style; and also a small tray she painted. We hang up our toddler's paintings; where does all that creativity and pride of skill and mastery go once we are adults? You can tell I am a trained painter and art teacher. Now. I loved your ease with your power tools, and it's great to know there is a lady out there who knows her way around a power tool! Have you used up all your Kona gel stain yet?
@designedtothenines4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you… some skills are becoming a lost art… Takes sewing for example. I love to sew but a lot of people don’t know how to do it anymore. I think the vinyl cutting machines are good for people who don’t have a natural take to paint or don’t feel very artistic themselves. But I agree make pillows, sew your own curtains... etc. Not only do you save money, but you have a sense of pride in having accomplished and created some thing. My skills are pretty broad but I have never learned how to crochet or knit. Little by little… and an answer to your question… Nope. Still have the endless bottomless pit of Kona gel stain. I think I will have to have a party when I finally run out. I do have a dining table I just acquired at the thrift store, debating whether or not to use it on that! 😆

Discovering your channel has been a life/budget saver (I also have a Cricut Maker, an Explore Air and tons of HTV/permanent vinyl), you’ve given me so many ideas to put to use.... with maybe the exception of the gorgeous bench you hacked at the end of your video, due to being a complete failure at sewing (I took 3 years of Home Economics and I have a nice, new, sewing machine and serger, I’m just too inpatient to sew). 🥴 Thank you again, I’m binge watching more of your awesome videos! ❤️

The hanging fixture was amazing! How creative and beautiful. I cannot wait to make the ottoman. My son just asked me what power tool I wanted for Mother’s Day. I own many and love to use them. I love that you do not use Dollar Tree stuff all the time. I also love your voice, it is so easy to listen to!
