I love the song, and its video, The Sensual World, from the 1989 album of the same name. Inspired by James Joyce's modernist masterpiece, Ulysses, it incorporates a Macedonian folk tune played on Celtic instruments. Kate herself has rarely looked more beautiful, and it features one of the sexiest removals of a hat ever filmed.

I think Kate Bush wanted her shows to be amazing - and it is very demanding and draining to put a concert together. Also, for Kate, composing and recording songs was her main focus. Also, I suspect, these days she's very happy mooching about at home. I would like to see your reactions to Babooshka, Army Dreamers, Hammer Horror, Cloudbusting and Experiment IV (all of which have accompanying videos). Thank you.

She did tour in 2014 I think. I tried to purchase the ticket but no chance, it was sold within minutes. Every album is completely different so it's worth to explore her more. She had a fantastic album in 1989 called The Sensual World and the songs worth listen to are The Sensual World, Deeper Understanding, The Rocket's Tail...

After Kate's first tour of the UK and Europe in 1979 she decided it was too exhausting to tour again. Probably because she insisted on dancing in her own choreographed way for every song, and she was making multiple TV appearances including a one off performance on Saturday Night Live in the US. Her lighting engineer was also killed during the tour, so that may have helped to put her off the thoughts of doing any future tours as well. She did do a 22 night show in London in 2014, which was very theatrical and involved other dancers, puppets, shadows, and mask work. These shows were all performed at the same London venue and it was never taken anywhere else. The tickets for all 22 shows were completely sold out within 15 minutes.

really cool song from a truly great album. her music is incredibly diverse and incorporates ghosts, monsters, witches, murder, revenge, the weird, creepy, unsettling and extraordinarily tender. The rest of this album is well worth listening to. It has been incredibly influential and even all of these years later it is still very fresh. Kate really defies classification as an artist. Of this particular song she said some years afterwards (1992) that its meaning was: "I was trying to say that, really, a man and a woman, can't understand each other because we are a man and a woman. And if we could actually swap each others roles, if we could actually be in each others place for a while, I think we'd both be very surprised! And I think it would be lead to a greater understanding. And really the only way I could think it could be done was either... you know, I thought a deal with the devil, you know. And I thought, "well, no, why not a deal with God!" And she herself acknowledged in her comments that this is a deal that can really never be made, because as she herself said, the only way it could be done was if either God or the devil were to grant it. This idea of an unachievable goal - of truly and fully understanding each other and how we feel about things - was the very heart of this song from the beginning. Speaking at the time of it release Kate said: "It's really saying if there's a possibility of being able to swap places with each other that they'd understand how the other one felt, that when they were saying things that weren't meant to hurt, that they weren't meant sincerely, that they were just misunderstood. In some ways, I suppose the basic difference between men and women, where if we could swap places in a relationship, we'd understand each other better" But then she added the telling comment: "but this, of course, is all theoretical anyway." In the end it is a deal that can never be struck and Kate knows it.

If you do ‘Wuthering Heights’ be sure to do the white dress version 1 video, not the red dress version 2 video. The latter was shot for the American release of the single and, while more colourful, does not support the ghost narrative of the song as well.

As Kate said in 1991 - From the age of 11, Elton John was my biggest hero. I loved his music, had all his albums and I hoped one day I'd play the piano like him (I still do). When I asked to be involved in this project and was given the choice of a track it was like being asked 'would you like to fulfill a dream? would you like to be Rocket Man?' ... yes, I would. Kate Bush[33] Interesting facts - Elton John invited Kate to his wedding and there were around 600 guests, most of them famous. The whole evening the only person everyone wanted to meet was Kate Bush - that's how fondly she is admired. Elton sings a duet with Kate on her 2021 album."50 Words for Snow." I saw Kate live, her first live performance in 35 years in 2014. She was incredible.
