When the slats fit THAT tightly, you're going to have a hard time getting them up next time around, because the rust between the concrete and slat will wedge it in even harder.

Run the saw on all the slats…as they oxidize the will only get tighter!,, go back and address before it gets bad. Also, the concrete could spall due to the rust expanding.

The new slats were built better actually. With the bars going in that direction they are much stronger, should allow muck to fall in easier, and decrease wear on the scraper. Hats off to the Wareing crew.

Slats going that direction will make it harder for muck to fall. The original ones were that way for a reason. As you scrap across them will push the muck in to tank. Muck can now keep pushing out into the yard the way the slats are

I think this was particular episode was very enlightening, yes you were having a difficult, frustrating day and you obviously felt a bit tired and emotional BUT you recognised this and more importantly realised tomorrow is another day imho it's so easy in a pressurised farming environment to lose the temp, charge on and end up with injuries and or frayed tempers. Looks like you adapted and overcome. Team Pemberton 👊👏👏

I thought the same, the old slats are a very weak design, with them turned perpendicular the steel is run from side to side in the strong axis and every little angle is a tiny beam.

The slats across the channel are much stronger than the ones a long the channel. Every slat holds weight where the long ones rely on just the end angles to hold the weight.

Tom...first problem you guys have is the tight fit, which will cause concrete to crack when metal expands, and like someone already said, when metal starts to rot, they will be even harder to remove. Best way to fit those slats is to make a bit bigger "L frame" and build it into concrete. Slat than fits in that metal frame... same way the shafts are made... With your situation, cutting edge of concrete edge forextra space needed for easy fit and expansion was the best, easiest idea and option to fit them... I think you should do same for all of them. But new slats should be much much stronger than old ones. Keep up with good work 🤘😎

Another fantastic video by Tom Pemberton. On a side note, its important to know that not everyday is gonna be a good day. Even a decent day is still never guarantied, the only thing that is guarantied is their will be another day. Whether you are here to enjoy it, another day will always come. Keep your mindset open to the possibility of bad days, and they will come less frequently.

The new slats should be stronger as they are in the other direction. should help keep the cost lower. Btw: congrats for your welding ... Luke did right to notice that they didn´t break, even with a guy running the keenan in ... You probably had a miserable wheather, judging by the amount of water standing in the yard between the 2 sheds ... I would understand if getting it roofed is one of the next projects, that would be a lot of water out of the slurry.

I'd be worried they don't allow for expansion and may crack the new concrete. Lay a straight bit of timber along the edge to use as a guide for the grinder blade to run along and take a blades width off both sides.
@aenea22980
@aenea22980 Жыл бұрын
You won't be able to take the slats out in the summer due to the concrete and steel both expanding. The slats might buckle and break the welds as well when it gets warm, since there is no expansion space. You should grind the edge of the concrete hole out at least 1/4 around the entire edge. It would give 1/2" total expansion space and make it easy to take them out but not leave a huge gap.

Hi Tom, When the day comes to pull the grates out, get a fibre blade for cutting stone, and run it all round the edge of the grates, this will allow you to pull the grates out easy, the reason for a fibre blade is it won't kick or spark off the metal of the grates. . . By a box of 10, what you don't use that day you may use another 🤔
