You absolutely made my morning! In 2015 my wife and I had an epic day fishing for the Reds where you filmed this. The boulder across the stream matches the photos my wife and I took. What a great memory.

Hi and cool fishing session with your wife. I'm from Germany and stay in anchorage for a month. I planned a trip to Russian/Kenai River. So I saw that you used a fly, can I use a Spinning Rod with a #1 single hook and an softbait? What about catch an release? I have Wader Boots up to the hip, is that enouth? Is there any important regulation? Best Regards Martin🫡
@KevinRapkochFishing6 ай бұрын
I hope you have a really fun time in Anchorage and out on the Kenai and Russian. There are specific regulations regarding what lures you can use and the size of the hooks. If you go to a sporting goods store, you can probably find a copy of the regulations, or you can search for Russian River Kenai River fishing regulations online. Definitely read the regs before you go. Many people use spinning rods with the Russian River flies and do very well... The split shot added (18 inches above the fly) allows you to easily cast the flies with the spinning rod. You can buy Russian River flies at Walmart in Anchorage. 🙂✌️🎣

@@nathancrowe1489 oh, at the end I did mention flies that my uncle tied for me... But he just based the pattern off of RR flies. I caught a couple with his flies, which is always cool to catch with flies someone made for me. 🙂🙂✌️🎣

Can you fish without using a fly rod?
@KevinRapkochFishing6 ай бұрын
Definitely! People fish with spinning rods for sockeye salmon all the time. You use flies like I was using, but all the weight/split-shot you use allows you to cast the flies easily with a spinning rod. 🙂✌️🎣

Everyone always says you have to floss the fish in the river cause they won’t bite.. but it looks like they’re biting here. Is it just a matter of it still being early in the run or something? Sweet video btw, heading out to the Russian for the first time this weekend!
@KevinRapkochFishing6 ай бұрын
Nice man, hope you have fun and get on some fish this weekend! I disagree with many about the "sockeye don't bite" thing; to me, they are like any other fish, where they bite (use their mouths) defensively even if they aren't eating. You can irritate them with the flies, and they will snap at the flies just to get rid of the irritant. So, they aren't biting to eat, but they'll still bite. 🤙✌️🎣
@bugpumper6 ай бұрын
no, it doesn't. It looks exactly like their being flossed.
