The UK could double it's defense budget but it would be pretty pointless as they can't recruit. For every 1 soldier joining 3 are leaving. The government are obsessed with recruiting and yet never think about retention. Ten years ago a soldiers starting salary was roughly 40 percent more than minimum wage and now it's basically the same (24k), simply not worth it and is probably one of the many reasons recruitment and retention is so low. It's comical that the mod can't retain or recruit and will instead force people to join while at the same time call out putin for being the dictator.

I used to agree with national service and conscription, but not anymore. Before this we need a far better quality of politician from all parties and not just government who are currently corrupt and incompetent. Currently, we have fools trying to rule, not represent us, who would not allow their own children to risk their lives when ours will do just fine. I remember the controversy during the Iraq war where dead British military personnel were sent to fight with missing and/or inadequate equipment. Whats changed? More cuts, dwindling homegrown military support for those already serving and a greater distain for British citizens lives. I had a freind who was a Para RSM in breacon, He shouted at a sergeant for doing something wrong, a complaint was put in and the Para was sacked!! This guy was a hero, Falklands, Iraq veteran!! Whats more likely is, they will be forced into front line service while the diverse applicants get pushed through to safer positions of power and open uni to earn a better wage in a safer position while all the welsh, english, scottish and irish can get red misted by a drone for 15 quid an hour.. can't see why they wouldn't be over the moon in all honesty.. 🤦‍♂️

No absolutely not, when I left school in 94 I would of conscripted if it was needed. However times have changed I have 3 son's who would just make conscription age and over my dead body will they go and fight for countries who's young male population have fled to our country , I worked in a factory setting full of hundreds of workers and the amount of Ukrainian fighting fit young men told me they won't go home because they will have to fight for their country . So No I don't think we should send our men to fight for other countries. Our women would be left feeling unsafe with masses of illegal immigrants we have
