I would suggest, after the existing harbour, to continue with the grey rocks for another 10/15 cm and then place a big and beautiful lighthouse. After that I agree with you for the beach. The lighthouse makes a perfect division between the harbour and the sand of the beach. Congratulations for this wonderful job you are doing!

Path Tiling patterns getting destroyed near the edge happens all the time. If a heavy tram rode over that spot everyday, those tiles would most likely be highly damaged and drift away from the pre-existing pattern.
@Blake-lg1nb
@Blake-lg1nb Жыл бұрын
yeah i reckon it would look cool if the tiling on the straight part of the tram track was also messed up like on the corner, in order to sell this idea. that would be a really nice detail and a really creative solution to the issue
@chriswihulu

Speaking from the engineering side of things, having any loose foundation, where heavy vehicles operate daily, is a no go. If there were a similar smooth, dark zone as seen on the other side of the track, at the station, it would make more sense, as it can mimic asphalt, instead of bricked pavement.
@Dunkle-
@Dunkle- Жыл бұрын
I think the messy tiles around the tracks could work! It looks like the stone has been worn down through years of trains going by, and the weeds growing up helps sell that. I think what makes it look weird is that all the other tiles are so perfect. Maybe they could gradually get more messy and misaligned the closer they get to the rails, there could even be a few other messy patches with weeds poking out in other locations to sell the effect.

Honestly, I think a beach would look very nice. You don't really need another port, and it will allow you to add a lot of detail down there, I think, while also not looking too out of place. The only thing about a beach is that it seems like it would have to be very steep since you don't have too much room on the lower area. Regardless of what you pick, and as always, I can't wait to see the final result, I'm certain it will look fantastic either way. Your builds are infinitely better than what I could ever build 😂

Minor detail on the stairs, particularly long flights of them, is that they are almost always broken up into sections with a flat break in the stairs between each section. This is primarily for safety so someone falling only falls a certain number of stairs at maximum, but I believe it's also helps with construction strength. It's a detail that doesn't have to happen, but it's the small details that mean so much at times.
@UltimatePerfection

Beautiful work! Instead of the 2nd staircase, I would suggest building a glass elevator so the people in wheelchairs or with a stroller or the elderly can more easily go from the upper part of the city to the lower part. Go for a beach. It adds some amusement and relaxation at the water and provides a nice colour to the city. Maybe also add a slope or elevator to the beach once again for the people who need it. It shows your city cares :)

Would you consider placing trucks inside facing outwards, and the added building you're planning there will be the hanger front with the station above (with a sliding pole and all! And an entrance from the top level on the right where there's no hand rail)🙏🧑‍🚒🚛
@FatherExo
@FatherExo Жыл бұрын
Maybe it won’t work out with the rest of the layout and contrast too poorly, but I would suggest taking the tile work and just separating it from the integration of the rail. It’s the place of the rail and even the outer edge of the rail, use a variation of light to dark grey single round studs as well as maybe brown or coyote brown/beige studs, to emulate gravel or rocks filled in where the rail is laid into the ground.

Maybe you could add a small beach right next to the cave, and then have a smaller dock area where the tiled path crosses the tram tracks? That way, the beach wouldn't feel too out of place and there would still be a logical connection between the city/path and the sea. Anyway, always exciting to see what you come up with!

1:48 if you look at some older or more used cobblestone streets especially if there is a tram going through it. The pattern usually is broken up alongside the tracks through permanent small movements over a long time. So I'd say it actually isn't that bad and looks a bit more realistic that way...

Beach! Rock wall on the back and some concrete/stone stairs leading down would work excellently. I have a concordant setup to that in my Lego city, and I think it works well. It provides a very nice break from the greys and greens, and would perhaps tie in well with the similarly coloured buildings in the rear.
@tessiepinkman
@tessiepinkman Жыл бұрын
The ice cream truck is the cutest thing! And it makes so much sense to place it where you did. The updates look great! And I really like the thought of more water down by the harbor. It could be "just" a waterline, with a type of beach promenade, not necessarily a full blown beach, but water with people walking along a path with some vegetation and either cliffs up to the upper level or green hills, but since you already have a precedent for a cliff in that region, I think that could look wonderful. Then you could have a place, perhaps on top of a cliff, where the people could look at the view of the ocean, or something like that. And a lighthouse. A lighthouse is very very very high on my list of things that would look amazing. Sorry if this doesn't match your plans at all, just an idea. Everything looks great, and I trust that you know better than me what will look best! Looking forward to the next video!

On the right you have harbor. On the left you don't have to go for a beach, because as you yourself noticed it would break the pattern of buildings. Go in between -> build a wild beach, something not so easily accesible, a part of town that people visit, but its not administred, like maybe only a few people resting beside the water (like illegaly), and couple of people fishing, you know those places that are often not visited by normal families but trespassed by young people to drink beer and have fun away from restrictions (illegal barbecue, swimming etc.). Surely you saw that in Germany, as I saw it in Poland, its common in Europe :)

You should make an excursion tour boat dock that has the ticket building and loading from the main level to add some continuity from the top to the harbor. I think it would look cool if it connected next to the trolley to be the end destination. It was common (in the US at least) that trolley lines would have a destination at the end of the line that they would run during the weekend so the trolley line would still produce revenue on non-working days. I think it would be a cool little detail!

Just do it sideways with pivot joint pieces (not sure of their exact name) so that you can just tilt the plane towards the track curve, use a ton of bricks that have studs on the side and top so that you use the side studs as your new top studs and yeah, now you have filled gaps and no illegal connections. Lego does this a lot for the tilted sections on the UCS AT-AT

To make the gapiness seem uniform, you could break up the monotony of the quarter-tiles around the train station by adding gaps, weeds, and tiles slotted in vertically to make it appear as if the construction crew struggled, filling in gaps as best they could, giving some extra life and history to an otherwise repetitive plaza.

For the second staircase on the other side, if you're worried about it being too steep I'd suggest that rather than a straight staircase you extend the rock face and have a ramp or winding staircase snake up the rock face with a lading on each side of the cliff. You have a decent amount of empty space to make it work and It'll both provide a break from having the same kind of staircase again, and a fun way to integrate the rock face into the build in a way that isn't just being another wall for elevation.

Having the café and ice cream truck at the top of the access stairs would mean your minifigs on the beach have easy access to snacks - very important! Looks great, love this series! The tiling around the tram tracks is a little rough, yeah. I almost want to say it'd look better if you flipped the last row next to the tracks so the curved side is facing the tracks? But I might tbe wildly wrong there. Remember that it's okay to break the pattern, even radically, so long as it _feels_ correct to the viewer. Also, maybe a little gravel beach would make it feel like it fits better? You could use dark tan etc., not just gray. I think that would make it feel less tropical than a full on tan sandy beach! I hope that whatever you choose, you keep those little stairs down which you showed on the module with the dolphin on it

Have you considered using some small darker grey quarter circles patches to slightly vary the pattern of the new area? Not only would it be realistic as it imitates the staining you see in real cities, but would also add some more color and detail.

You can also put some fences around the tram track with only a small gap that people can use to cross the tracks. In this way you can avoid the tram running over distracted people and at the same time you cover the holes.

One thing I’d recommend for rails is have some kind of gravel-like surface on the edges. It might make it easier to distinguish and build so that it looks good with the corner

Beach... no. I'd say, make a big dock with a pair of stairs leading down to it. Large enough for something like a large multi-deck cruise ship. I imagine some swimminh pools on yhe upper deck, beach chairs, a crew in pretty white uniforms, and of course a group of tourists streaming into the city for ice-cream and the local market. Trolleys with luggage etc. A bit further towards the corner, a large lighthouse in an old rock style (not your regular red/white cilinder, but something pretty)

This update video was fantastic. So much progress was made here. I am so excited to see how the expansion continues. I also appreciate how you don't focus entirely on one area in every video. you do one side in one video and the other in the other video, which is fantastic!

dont beat youself up over the tiling, it looks great in my opinion. there will always be limitations when building with lego, but you do an amazing job overcoming those challenges as much as possible :)

side note - i think it might blend in more if you add imperfections elsewhere in the tiling near the tracks. theres usually some kind of blemish in real world city flooring and often things like somewhat obvious repairs. makes it seem a little more lifelike maybe?

Instead of a beach or extended harbour, you could also make an area with houseboats. These types of floating houses are quite common in the Netherlands and I've seen them in Germany too. Also, you can add a lot of variety because each houseboat is different.

It would be cool to have a beach in the city! I think it could add a nice pop of color as the surrounding area is full of the gray wedged pieces!

Definitely a beach for me! I think a nice spot of color would be a nice contrast with the greens and greys of the city area.

Big fan of the beach idea. Take a look at Brighton, England, you'll see that your buildings fit in very well with a beachfront😃 Just a thought, have you tried sprinkling some dark bluish gray corner tiles in with that tiling pattern? Just very minimal (maybe 1 in 200 pieces or so), but it might break up that light gray a bit. I personally think it's a bit much, even though it looks great with all the greenery and buildings about!

Best solution I can think of for the tiling near the tracks, is a fence for the tiles closest to the track along with a crossing with a raising and lowering gate for when the tram goes by, but that's just my take on it.

I agree with putting a beach in in that lower section and don't worry about the buildings not matching up. It's fairly normal here in the UK to have different types of buildings near the coast. I would als take a look at Google street view pictures of towns with trams. My nearest big city is Manchester and as areas have developed around the tram lines, the paving has become really messy in some locations and completely uniform and symmetrical in others. You could definitely have a harsher contrast between sections around the tram tracks, rather than the sweeping curves of paving you have now. Love what you do, please keep it up!

The style of the historic buildings would fit the ' beach style '. There are many european cities with historic buildings and also beaches.

There is no such thing as illegal building techniques. If it works it works. That’s the beauty of building with LEGO. Very detailed and amazing build.

The beach could look absolutely great! I'd recommend you look at the city of Dunkerque in the north of France for some inspiration, it is quite a similar layout with the city ending pretty abruptly into a beach.

idk man, you have a lot of space and yet the city seems small.. idk if it's because the water part is very small and you/we get too close to the city, but it seems small for such a big room. maybe make the water part bigger and add some large boats to give it some depth, all the "big" buildings are in the distance and everything nearby is small and very crowded.. idk random things that came to my mind.

I think a beach could be really fitting with if you perhaps make a wooden/brick pier with some more buildings in the style you already have. the pier could extend over the beach to tie it all together.

I’d suggest making it looked cracked and broken where the tram turns, it would fix your problems and probably look good in the process
