I like the idea too! Either transparent with rounded profile, or the sections with aircraft like small windows, i think the round ones with more glass would look more modern. I don't know if this type of parts are still available, but perhaps adding in a system of thermo well tunnel system which extracts heat from below the surface of the moon would do. (Not as easy as on earth, but i think i think it would work in theory on the moon as well, however one probebly had to drill a lot deeper or use some kind of future thermonucler drilling method in order to achive that since the moon does no longer hawe any volcanic activity, but it still has a molten core as the Earth.)

I think it makes sense to have capsules with plants on the surface aswell. It would then act as different stages of the experiments; stage 1 - microscopic observations and trials, stage 2 - growing the seeds and saplings inside the lab, stage 3 - see if they survive on the surface. By this logic you could also add "failures" where there are capsules with dead plants inside on the surface, and astronauts could be transporting capsules, or capsule parts, across the surface. I just think the surface capsule idea have a lot of potential for the overall story, plus like you said, it adds contrast. Keep up the good work! :)

Definitely have paths / walkways. Dust on the moon is a HUGE problem so having paths would reduce the dust issue. Plus it would make the base look more developed. I do love the nod to the old Lego Space. I could see the Galaxy Explorer touching down on that landing platform. I have a soft spot in my heart for old Lego Space. I cheered when Benny was able to finally build his spaceship (spaceship SPACESHIP!!!) in the Lego Movie.

Yes, you cannot overestimate the dust problem on the Moon. And hence this is why you need a dressing room between the airlock and the lab! (also, it seems that the lab is not pressurised: the plants are under glass, the guys walk with the astronaut suit on... what is the airlock for, then?)
@theapexsurvivor9538
@theapexsurvivor9538 Жыл бұрын
@@levinche also, there's water for use by the astronauts as well as the plants, but no way for the astronauts to draw that water (no faucets, showers, external pipes to move it to another facility where those things might be present). So unless that stuffs where the open wall of the base is, we've got some very smelly astronauts (also some very contaminated experiments as they can't easily clean their hands).
@theapexsurvivor9538

And more than just lunar dust, you also have to consider that uneven surfaces aren't good for moving across quickly, and may result in sprains and other injuries during a prolonged stay. Suits mitigate that a little, but anyone doing construction or engineering knows that PPE is not your first line of defence. Roofed or pressurized walkways with guide rails are a must in this kind of environment.

As others have mentioned, Lunar Regolith is a big issue on the moon. Due to the lack of flowing water to smooth each particle, it's actually extremely sharp, which can damage space suits or equipment (Apollo astronauts actually suffered from scratched-up visors) or be a serious health issue to get on you or especially breathe. It is also electrically charged, sticking to almost everything it comes into contact with (Like a balloon to your hair), meaning it gets everywhere. Not only would walkways tie the moon base together, it's also likely a quite realistic solution that would be used. I'd also like to suggest (If you don't already have plans for all the base sections) building an ice mining/refining station. Not only can ice provide water, but it can also give oxygen and hydrogen for rocket fuel!

i think the vegetation outside would be ok, you could have them in different containers like they are testing different conditions. it would make most sense to have them close together so there easier to notice the difference like an orchard. you could even have some weird looking plants of strange colours like the testing has altered them.

Secondly, it gives me the idea of a slightly more advanced "society", where all the basics have already been laied out and more care is given to transport resources. It could also be interesting adding a sort of "mine" train, maybe that works with one rail only or a string of magnets to improve freight exchange between the base and the rocket launch platform.

it makes sense to use grating panels from common outside destinations because moon dust will be such a huge problem with any moon colony. if you could avoid walking on the regolith say when you go from the pad to the base, you dont have to bring as much dust into the vehicle/base. perhaps take clear plates and install gratings on top of them with perhaps a border of the same color. perhaps with some footings to raise it above the lunar ground.

Some notes from someone who somewhat works in the space industry (building a satellite): - I wouldn't put the plants on the surface because of the radiation dose they would receive. That's why I really appreciate the underground part of the base, as it's by far the most realistic. Regolith works great for radiation shielding. - As far as color and surface decorations go, I would recommend a lot of infrastructure like pipes and tanks you already have. Possibly discarded crates (since it's a lot easier to just leave them on the lunar surface than to launch back up)?. They could be color coded for different contents like water, food, fuel, oxygen, waste, etc. Also, if you look at the Apollo landing sites, there is a ton of stuff laying around. Most of it was junk, but a lot of it was science experiments (many of which looked like junk, tbh). I think having a bunch of random science experiments would be a fun build, and it would fit the science and discovery vibe that comes with space exploration. - The paths are a better idea than you may think. Lunar regolith is basically tiny shards of glass, so any amount of time you can avoid walking on it is a good thing. One thing to note: lunar regolith getting into bases isn't great, but I don't think the solutions would fit well with the great retro aesthetics. - Bonus: an alternate way of launching things that works REALLY well on the Moon is the railgun technique (which I think could be a fantastic and fun build).

If the underground lab were ever expanded with modules, or if you added an above-ground facility for agriculture and water treatment (as astronauts would probably be housed underground to avoid radiation) itd be amazing to see the colony expanded! You should use gear racks and gears to make a mechanism to easily open the airlock doors. It would be far more efficient then trying to get your hands in there to close or open them and it would look cool.

I bought the anniversary Galaxy Explorer and I'm wanting to do a big display with it. Making a Display akin to the old Classic Space sets but adding some more detail like the anniversary set. To add to it I want to put a Lego Earth in the background to show its on the moon. Kinda like the Classic Space theme in Lego Worlds

I'd say add the pathways as it makes the base not look isolated in it's different parts and it would make sense for a base to connect it's locations to the landing pad for easy access and smoother traversal.

have the paths without the plant pods and have some big pipes follow them and enter the water room so ships can easily offload water into the base. you could have a control station for the pipes next to the pad

Great work! For the ligthing, could you simply just add a couples of small holes above the plants section, and maybe cover them with clear block for "realism"? That would let light shine trough when the cover is on.

Instead of a walking path, a moon base would have a vehicle hangar and they would drive a little buggy! I'm super jealous of this moc

Really nice build! A nice metal walkway with some railing and lights would absolutely draw a bit more attention to the lab entrance, and fill that area out a bit! You'll probably want to add some sort of access panel to the entrance though? A separate idea - "filling" the water storage with a layer of transparent plates closer to the top might make it a bit more easily readable as water storage, and you could do something interesting with a pipe passing through the surface of the water down to the bottom, to give it a bit of depth?

Pathways would make a lot of sense, the moon's surface isn't just simply rock its actually a lot more like sand. On the Apollo missions it was a big issue tracking that inside the lander and getting in the air the astronauts breathed.

An idea for the museum so you could show off interiors to the public: hire a professional photographer to make some very nice pictures of some nice interiors, which you could then print out and hang somewhere in the museum

A lot of what is on the moon base isn't something we currently have on the moon. I think this gives you more freedom to add details without having to be accurate to today's moon. The story so far looks like the beginning stages of domesticating the moon so maybe that could be the story telling you continue with. Love your videos btw. Best channel on youtube by far. :)

This moon base looks great! I’m new to your channel but I absolutely love your content and creativity. I was thinking about that walkway between the landing pad and airlock and think its a good idea because it visually guides the viewer between the two. I feel like a proper walkway might be a bit distracting, as you said, and I think it might be a cool idea if instead of that, you could make a trail of footprints using darker grey bricks. Because there is no atmosphere on the moon, the footprints wouldn’t vanish at all. And that way you can have sort of paths that visually connect everything on the surface without it being too distracting. I love your videos, keep up the good work my friend!

I think paths would look great on the moon surface and break up all that light grey. Adding some small red lights around the landing pads and white lights on the paths would look so good. Also a cool addition to the moon surface would be rovers taking astronauts to a mining operation on the other side of the platform.

I think the pathways look great, breaks up the moon surface and allows you to get more contrast / fun details! You can incorporate different stations along the way, more satellites, a rover docking station, etc.

The walkways are a nice idea. Any sort of mitigation of the risk of falling and cutting your suit open makes sense.

Paths would look great as an elevated grating in my opinion, and then you could possibly have piping or wires running underneath. It’d also be cool to see some geological surveillance equipment on the surface, or some form of cargo to make the environment more “lived in”

if you want to add color to the surface you can use color cadings for specific structures. Like have a research part that has blue in the walls, a vegetation thats has green, an garage that has red. also makes it easier for future visitors to see what is what.

I think raising the water level a couple bricks would make it look more like water storage, right now it looks like a small pool of some kind. A couple layers of that transparent blue would look so cool as well

You should add the pathways, create a place for the astronauts to sleep, create a crystal mine where the crystals are a fuel source to power the ship and base, and use the galaxy explorer set as it matches really well with the well designed moon

Could you put skylights in the plate above the underground base? It would provide natural lighting for the plants, and maybe make it easier to see inside. A glass "dome" above the plant room could look interesting on the surface!

I like the paths, I think it would make sense to have a stable platform to walk along and temporarily place supplies as they're unloaded from the landing pad.

A path from the landing pad to the lab seems like a good idea. That would make it much easier to move equipment in and out of the lab. Dragging it over the surface seems difficult with the contoured terrain.

I think the paths should be made of grills with slots in them. A solid path would be covered in moon dust very quickly.
