I am Felsa Marie Hortiza-Barut, a self-taught contemporary artist. Born in Tagum City, Philippines. Currently living in Huddersfield, UK. Most of my inspiration for my paintings comes from how I feel. As an artist,the emotional concept not being able to control a situation in my life and the creation of an emotional and aesthetic experience are all part of my painting process.
I use Acrylic paints because of it willingness to be transformed in any form, shape, line, color and texture with my paintbrush and palette knife ,makes it perfect to create a more inner guided reality which calls the viewer to look deeper to my artwork. I also use metallic gold leaf .The Gold color plays an important role in my paintings, it is my favorite color which reflects to my personality and it illuminates and enhances other things around it. It inspires knowledge, spirituality and a deep understanding of the self and the soul.I love it due to its magical effects , when viewed on different angle.
I want to provoke individual’s heartfelt vision, thoughts, beliefs, and imagination through my artwork’s unique style. The ultimate goal is to ensure I have expressed the story I wanted to tell.
