Ideals can have properties that set them apart from other ideals. We look at two of these properties, and how they affect the factor rings created by those ideals.

Thank you for leaving these up over the years! They've been super helpful to me this semester while I'm taking an online Abstract Algebra course!

Hi Patrick, Thank you for your helpful video. What exactly is a proper ideal?
@patrickjones15105 жыл бұрын
"Proper" is used in the same sense as a proper subset. So an ideal is proper if there are elements of the ring that are not included in the ideal.

Thank you,,,that was really helpful. Can you please also explain Sylow's theorems ?
@patrickjones15104 жыл бұрын
I'll see what I can do, but there is quite a gap between where I left off with these videos and the Sylow theorems. It might end up being more effort than I can spare right now, since I'm not currently teaching an Abstract Algebra class.

I recorded these during a time I was teaching the course. I've since learned how to use my document camera a bit better, but since I'm not teaching abstract algebra, I'm not going to go back and re-record things.
