I happen to have a bottle of wax medium and don't know what to do with it. I'm sure abstract paintings with this material would be so inspiring and mind refreshing. Thanks for your kindness to share this content with everybody.

Beautiful work....so epic!!!!! What is the largest board you painted on? I may start using cold wax and oils! Would water soluble oils work with the cold wax? Thank you for your time!!!!
@LisaBBoardwine2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I have painted up to a 60x60 panel with oil/cold wax medium. I love to paint larger!! Water soluble oils do work but I prefer traditional oil paints. I do not paint with the water soluble oils but I have some students who do. Have fun! Paint, paint, paint!!

Beautiful how long to dry and do you varnish?
@LisaBBoardwine7 ай бұрын
Kathy, thanks!! Adding the cold wax makes the oil paint dry faster. Then it depends on the temperature and the humidity where you live. Also how thinly or thickly your layers are applied . But typically it dries in about 2-3 weeks. You do not have to varnish these oil and cold wax pieces but you can! You can use clear cold wax or GamVar/ a varnish from Gamblin.
@candicewoodard85752 жыл бұрын
Hi LIsa, Just discovered your YT channel. I have can of cold wax and unused oil paints, so will give this a try. What is drying time in between each layer? And do you seal painting with cold wax? Thank you Beautiful work.
@LisaBBoardwine2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching my channel!! I usually allow about 20-30 minutes between the first layer and the second..however if you have more time that is good too. There are some techniques that need to be done on a surface that is drier. So there is lots of play and experimentation here!! You can seal the painting -when finished -with a layer of clear cold wax if you want to -but you don’t have to varnish or seal it at all. The cold wax is throughout the painting already. These pieces are meant to have a matte finish but if you want a satin or glossy finish you can use GamVar. Hope this helps!!🎨

This is beautiful but I would love to have known your thought process as you painted. I am just starting w cw and never have done abstract paintings at all. So how to know when to do what and not end up w a mess is a huge concern for me
@LisaBBoardwine4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Teri! Working with oil and CWM is a lot about playing and just allowing yourself to explore what the medium will do! You do need to let some of the layers set up before adding another to avoid to much blending. Play and have fun!
@abdelfettas60893 жыл бұрын
Amazing as always Lisa, extraordinary talent. I would like to understand please, why you need to let the paint dry before continuing? What would happen if you continue while still wet? Thank you for clarifying. 🙏
@LisaBBoardwine3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment! This is oil and cold wax so the layers are very wet as I build them up, allowing them the have some “set-up” or drying time helps to not make muddy smears and areas. If I allow them to start drying or setting up the next layers go on more crisp and colorful! Hope this helps! Thanks again!
