I've watched many youtube painting tutorials over the last several months since I began painting, and this is my first time ever leaving a comment. I just feel the need to express how inspired I get watching you paint. Your technique is so flowing and flawless to watch. I really enjoy watching you make your paintings come to life! And the finished results are just so amazing! Your art and style really stand out to me and inspire me in a big way! Thank you for sharing these videos and showing us so much beauty!

What a joy to "Watch" you create... YOUR Feelings on Canvas... ;) ... I am also a Handwriting Analyst... (Graphology) ... and watching you ... create such a personal in depth painting... I would call this "Feelings" ... How you layered it... like the layers of your years... Certain Friends & Family in the first 20 years... then the next layer is You, who you have become of the first 20 years of Friends, Family and Foes... then the next 20 years... Putting on the next layer, this time mixed in with whom you have already become... Enhancing some (colors)... covering up other (colors) a.k.a. Feelings... and at the end... the most remarkable painting=== You... ... How nice of you to share yourself with others... "Bravo"... Absolutely Beautiful...

This is beautiful. I really like the layered colors. I love watching your videos. I really appreciate the fact you don't mind sharing your process. I get inspiration from watching you. A friend sent me a link to one of your videos which led me to try abstract. I now enjoy doing some abstract. How do you know when to quit? I have watched you paint and it looked like it was finished and yet you kept on going and made it look even better. I noticed that you flicked the paint onto the canvas. I think I might try that. I had someone tell me to use a toothbrush but it didn't give me the result I was looking for. There is so much to learn. I see where you said you use a wet brush to remove paint from the canvas. I take it the paint under it is dry enough to do that?

Excellent video as always. I have been watching and re-watching your videos for several months, and have your two DVDs as well. I don't think I ever noticed something and please correct me if I'm wrong. On this video I saw in an edit cut, that you had allowed the paint to dry before starting your glazes. I don't know why this struck me, but I think it clarified part of your technique for me. I've been trudging ahead and getting muddied results or losing the original ideas in my paintings. I think I've been missing a vital part of your technique, and that is having patience to allow paint to dry before proceeding and not just once but throughout the process. Your work is awesome, if I could get even close to something like your results I'd be a happy camper. thanks again for sharing your art and knowledge

Hello Michael. I love all of your paintings, but especially the ones like Lily's Song. Edge of Dreams etc. You had mentioned you might be making a DVD for those of us who have no idea of what we are doing. Can you please let me know when you do. I have some acrylic paint and brushes, that was given to me from a friend who told me to get a hobby. Put the books away and relax. I do book reviews for authors and publishing houses. I don't charge for doing them as I will not be pressured into giving a review of a book that they want t me too. My name means a lot to me. I was looking on the web and saw the pictures I have mentioned. I bought the two DVD's you have out, and sure would love it if you can do a DVD in the style I love. I know nothing about art except what I do love. You have given me that. Thanks Michael and if you do come out with the DVD I will be the first to buy it. Sandra H.

Congrats on this being your longest video, but no worries we want them even longer. Were you actually shirt wiping the brush? Now I can tell my wife "hey MIX does it." You've mostly used a pallet of core colors, one day it would be nice if you would list them for us. You've embraced social media by crushing UTube, are you going to expand to FB and Twitter?

How do you keep your paint clean " between the lines " for instance the way you do in Lillys Song ? It seems like one of the brushes you use is very stiff and does the "clean up work " and cuts in lines in painted areas.

I tried doing some of your paintings, i used fluid matte meduim i did get the consistency of having the color blended well from true color to faded tone, but im having a hard time glading my paint on the canvas, do you think i still need to use floating medium? Do you prime your canvas? I prime my canvas by myself but still the cloth absorbs the paint to much.

Hi Me again! I wanted to know more about your video's. Do you explain what you are using as mediums, Technics, shading, shadowing, line usage etc... or is it basically music and us observing you as in UTUBE, of you working? I see you are using powder paints and mixing them. Are you using the glazing medium for mixing or liquid polymer or both?
@nicholas1964410 жыл бұрын
Awesome demo. The black lines made using the bottle...is it a mixture of black acrylic with medium or watered down to get the stream consistently right?
@MichaelLangArt10 жыл бұрын
its acrylic with water but the consistent stream is questionable, It takes some practice.To thin it spreads wide, to thick it wont come out of the bottle and then the infamous dotted line.Dont get frustrated you get it after a little practice. Enjoy...MIx
@rebeccaviezel10 жыл бұрын
Amazing and inspirational! The black lines you put, not with the brush but the ones you squirt on, is that just plain paint or is it paint mixed with acrylic medium?
@Pinkribbonx39 жыл бұрын
Greetings from an American living in Norway. Your work Mr. Lang is amazing. You make it look so easy, but it's really not. It's a great deal of practice I'm sure. I see that thru out the your videos you have a series of different brushes. Which ones do you use? 1.Which brush do you use for making those beautiful fluffy shadows, that are almost dream like.Its spectacular really. I've been trying to duplicate your method, but my arms got tired after 5 hours today. 2.So when you add your next colour, do you dip your brush in water first before the paint or afterwards? It was going quite fast, so not so easy to follow all the time. 3.The black acrylic paint that you use in the plastic container with a nozzle amazed me the way you just swished around and suddenly your painting had divisions. Where do you buy these containers and do you water down the acrylic paint a little bit before you swish it around or is it just acrylic paint? Look forward to hearing from you.

@MichaelLangArt10 жыл бұрын
Depends on what I'm doing but yes many times I will do a complete or partial coat with medium.As a general rule I don't use water , It breaks down the paint and leaves a flat appearance. I'm glad you like!

are you using acrylic paints or oil paints. I love the fact that you paint with both hands. I am a lefty but I am a bit ambidextrous myself. I think your work is absolutely gorgeous. I love the way you blend your colors. Is the brush wet with water at all to make the colors mesh together better? Can you please answer my question. I love your work.
@TheWicklunds257 жыл бұрын
My impression is that it is oil in this painting. The reason I say this is because when he makes a paint stroke, the consistency seems oily and creamy, the bristles leaving an oily stamp on the under layer. The brush seems to be natural fibers rather than synthetic, which supports my impression. What do you say?
@tiffanyhackerspace83776 жыл бұрын
Idk about brushes, but I believe he's using acrylic paints, mixed with matte medium, and probably starts on a wet canvas or medium-washed canvas. But I'm just guessing.

@ClassyGeek8 жыл бұрын
When you made the heavy black lines, you let them dry before moving on? Could you tell me what brand of paint you use?
@TheWicklunds257 жыл бұрын
It looks to be Winsor and Newton Galeria Heavy body. If you notice, when he first adds the paint to the canvas he uses a wash technique, wet paint to wet canvas and he can cover a large portion of the canvas with a transparent layer allowing the underpainting to show through, which adds dimension, depth, and richness... Something I am yet to achieve because I don't know how to make the paint stretch out like Micheal yet. Either my canvas is too dry, or i don't have the correctly blended paint on the brush with whatever elements he uses to achieve this effect.

are you mixing them with a gel medium for glazing so they don't try so fast? or is it just acrylics and water?

Blaine Murphy I use medium, water breaks down acrylic polymer and really should not be used as an overall medium for painting acrylics. The acrylic medium does keep the paint fluid longer and helps with the blending! Enjoy!
