Wild that the first thing that comes up when I look up this product is my local hobby shop. I may be stopping in for some of these.

at 5.09 you note wash colour and modellers using just black & not a colour/s mixed to achieve the same, but better...Colour theory notes, 'Black' as being ALL colour being absorbed by sunlight and conversly white reflects ALL colour. Achieving a 'shade' then, taking the base colour and adding a dark colour, not necessarily just black. As black kills colour...that is why using a dark colour (as in your description) and perhaps adding some black achieves a better more realistic outcome on models...I use just black, very, very rarely for this reason. Using black to darken a colour, this is different... Great Vid

I just purchased one of these oil washes on Amazon. So, to wipe away the excess enamel thinner is ok? I purchased some white spirit along with it just in case.

What's your preferred method for giving paint on something like a diesel loco, an overall sun-faded effect? Would you use a thinned-down white or light sand to airbrush over the whole model before proceeding with the rust and dirt effects? Or would you brush the fading paint effect on by hand? I've done basic weathering, dust and dirt before, but never tried 'fading' an entire models color before. Is normal Testor's Dullcoat OK to top-coat it? Thanks!

Add some white to the base color to spray on top areas to simulate fading. You could also spray a light earth color to simulate dust.

Agree with below comment. Also thin, thin washes (allowing for dry time between each) may also give the effect you are looking to achieve. A sutle proceedure... Also giving the chance to remove/wipe off in some areas. Wanting to use pigments ? Apply as close to the pigment colour (exhaust stains etc) as possible. Makes for a better finish in my opinion, having an 'under colour' to base the pigment...
