@@Johnny_DickersonNever heard of them. Must be very obscure. Their spotify treams per month are relatively low. The thing is, when people say x type of music isn't being made or all music is crap these days etc. (as I often do), we're talking about the mainstream. We can't possibly know about every band, and therein is the huge difference between now and then. The 70s and 80s were a time when great bands rose up. That rarely happens now. The music industry has collapsed into a myriad of online echo chambers driven by the streaming service algorithms.

The fans got their money's worth this night. An outstanding performance. This live version is excellent. The tempo is ramped up over the original version, and the lyrics, in places, have been added to, but it is so great. The drummer was a little hyped up because apparently his father was in the audience, for the first time. Ocassionally, you can see Mark, the lead guitarist in the red jacket, look over at the drummer and smile. Such a fantastic performance.

Such a great live version! Dire Straits are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have had so many hits including "Walk Of Life", "Brothers In Arms", "Money For Nothing", "Telegraph Road", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "So Far Away" etc. They don't have a bad song.

I’m 64yrs old and have been a fan of Dire Straits ever since they came on the scene back in 1978. The whole band are brilliant but you have the genius that is Mark Knopfler doing his thing on lead guitar. Plus the equally brilliant Terry Williams(rockpile) on the drums. The studio version of this is great but the boys really took it to another level with this live performance.

If I was lucky in anything with regard to the time I was born it was music. The Seventies and Eighties were ablaze with such a variety of songs and styles, and no auto tune. When you went to a live show you got the the same sound of the song and the experience of it beyond the studio version. And if you were wise to it you looked up the influences which sent you back through rock and roll to the folk scene, and the jazz scene and the blues. I still love it even now. As for these guys you will do them all. Live. "Romeo and Juliet", "Tunnel of Love", "Telegraph Road", and so many really. Just relax and enjoy. Great reaction by the way. Hope you and those you share time with have a fine and happy holiday. Be well.

I've seen Mott the Hoople, Cockney Rebel, Iggy Pop, Curved Air, Manfred Mans Earthband., and Mick Hucknal. All great shows over the years. But life has tended to get in the way. Priorities that had to come first at times, and there were other experiences to be had. It was fun back then exploring it all. I still have a few adventures I might like to go on if time allows as I age. Be well.

I hope you will check out their other hits, like Money for Nothing ("I want my MTV" came about from that song.) Their song, So Far Away from Me, is another hit. I've always loved the guitar in bands and I remember watching a Documentary...20+ years ago they were talking to Pete Townsand (The Who) and he told the story of him taking his friend (Jimmy Page from guitarist and founder of Leg Zeppland) to see this American guitar player. Watching him play, he commented, basically, that guy is going to put us out of business. He was talking about the legend Jimi Hendricks when he went over to the UK at the beginning of his career.

A 1980's Dire Straits gig would take your heart rate from 60 to 200 bpm several times over the couple of hours it took. I had it happen to me in 1986, age 17. Melbourne Australia. I had this VHS. I knew what I was in for.

Good question ... "is this one person or a group"? Put it this way ... without Knopfler, there is no group (just a collection of great musicians)! No one plays lead and fills while singing lead vocals like Mark K.

Oh you're so lucky, my paradise Waikiki, I'd love to live there, I'm from England, all of the islands are beautiful, except for Lahaina, I was there just for the day in 2015, such a tragedy..

Your reaction is as epic as the was song was then. I am so grateful that this performance was taped so we can watch and listen to it over and over. It represents the pinnacle of rock music that nobody today can touch. Mark Knoffler, and the entire band was at their very best here.

Dire Straits is one of the most famous bands from the 80s. How can people not know them?

The reason the drummer is going so hard is because it’s the first time his parents had come to see them live. Imagine putting on this show in front of them and having them just know they succeeded as parents. What a wonderful feeling.

My youth was in the 70s and I was lucky enough to enjoy this music and hundreds like it. Only those who lived through those years can only imagine its beauty. Ciao from Italy.
