No pain meds…..EVER. Favorite moment was after Larry cracked his head on the court, he came back in the game (without the medical staff’s knowledge) and continued playing with a cracked cheekbone, a concussion and double vision.. no pain meds. Tough as they come. Who does that now? Won’t even talk about how he would be in traction at the hospital before a game and would still play in that game.

Larry won Rookie of the Year with 63 points. Magic finished second with 3 points. Bird was a superstar from his first game. He didn't adjust to the game. The opposing players had to adjust to him. He had zero weakness. In 1991,With 2 broken bones in his back and both Achilles tendons virtually destroyed, Bird would win player of the game against a championship Bulls team and Michael Jordan . Bird scored 34 points 15 Rebounds 8 Assists 3 blocks and 2 steals. He was instrumental in causing 6 Bulls turnovers. The Celtics would win 3 out of 4 games that season. He retired in , '92, still turning in brilliant performances.

I think he’s just referring to Larry’s being a member of the official NBA’s All-Time Top 75 list they created to celebrate their 75th season. I can def see the confusion though. It did sound as if he was saying Larry should be ranked somewhere around 75th, which would be a blasphemous statement. I’ve got him at #5…tied with Magic course. They were joined at the hip career-wise from college until they went into the Hall.

Great reaction. Liked. So you know, he didn't play that whole game lefty. He said before the game he would play with his left thru 3 quarters. He did and scored 27 lefty. He had 47 for the game & hit the game winning shot. He also had 14 rebounds & 11 assists. In the final game of their road trip. Insane stuff.

I'm 47....grew up and still a diehard Celtics fan.....the only time ive seen two teams hate each other and have wars on the court was the 90s with the Knicks and Bulls....You just don't feel that fever anymore. Everyone is friens, they play grab ass after the game. Guys back in the day we're friends off the court by on the court....they were enemies. I just feel so damn lucky that I lived through that era.....and as a kid!! Good Content my guy....you got a sub from me.

Just watched your reaction. Thanks for showing my Larry some love. Now, as for the game where he shot from behind the hoop, here's what happened. First, he was already out of bounds and the shot didn't count. And if I remember correctly, the commentators thought that even if he HAD been in-bounds; they did not think the shot would've counted. They talked about it afterwards and even though no real consensus came forward; none of them thought it would have ever counted. But, I'm gonna tell ya that as a teenager watching my man make a shot like that? I had a grin on my face until their next game. He ALWAYS did something crazy good like that. Take care. 😀👍

It wasn't just the last few years Bird was playing with a bad back. His NBA career was from 1979 to 1992 and his injury was in 1985 so he actually played with that injury for more than half of his career as a player (not counting coaching, executive, etc.).

I KNEW YOUR WIFE IS AWESOME! Haha! The best part of basketball between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson to me was that there was always a high-level of trash talking and plays to back it up. What also made the Bird and Magic rivalry cool to me was that they had such a high-level mutual respect for each other. They played it and left it in the net. When the game was over, they went back to their regularly scheduled lives. Today it seems like a lot of unnecessary trash talk and antagonizing happens on social media between players and just raises tensions of everybody and distracts from the real talent of the players and the game. I know it makes me old but I miss it when the rivalry and trash talking happened during the competition and not from the couch. LOVED THE VIDEO! KEEP THEM COMING!

Magic and Bird were friends off the court. They played golf together. Bird stood by Magic when others wouldn’t. For the retirement ceremony, Magic wore a Celtics jersey under his jacket, he flashed it to Larry. The retirement ceremony was sold out. The Garden didn’t even have a game that night.

He told the media he was saving his right hand for the Lakers. The game went to overtime. Bird finished with 47 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. He played a lot of the first 3 quarters lefthanded, scoring 27 points with his left hand. To understand how great Bird was watch the videos that talk about how great a trash talker he was. Bird's version of trash talk was to tell the opponent what he was going to do and then do it. A lot of times they were in game winning situations. He said he got a charge out of doing that to his opponents.

Crazy thing is Larry refused injections or any pain killers besides beer. 2 separate times played with broken orbit concussion. First game he saw 3 baskets shot for middle one. Against Indiana he saw only 2 baskets & had to guess which was real one. Other stories can be crazier

ONLY player in history to average FOR HIS CAREER, at least 24 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists.. NOONE has done that for AN ENTIRE CAREER. Jokic MIGHT when his career is done.. but unlike bird, he WONT have multiple 50/40/90 seasaons.. and unlike bird he WONT average nearly 2 steals a game for his career either like Bird did. Jokic doesnt even average as many blocks as bird did per game (.8 to .7)..

I grew up watching NBA from reel tapes to Beta max, to DVD, watched it live on satellite via parabolic antenna, and finally watching it live on cable TV. I have no doubt whatsoever that Larry Bird is one hell of a basketball player. For the other greats, the term legendary is used like generically. In the case of Larry, it became a brand. His brand - Larry Legend. And it is conferred to him by the other NBA players themselves, the fans and the pundits.

The thing is that when Larry came back with that fractured cheek, he ditched the doctor in the locker room. They didn't want him to go out but he was watching the game and say Persons hamming it up. He got pi$$ed and left when then the doctor had his back turned. Nobody is going to disrespect Larry's team like that! He had a concussion and was playing with double vision - still brought them back and smoked them!

IMHO the highlights don't even come close to capture the abilities of this man. Oh, another thing. Also, you need to watch Making the Case (for Larry Bird being the goat). Very well done. I think goat depends on what you’re looking for. If it’s great athleticism coupled with an outstanding skill set, that will yield someone like MJ or Lebron. If you’re looking for someone who has no weaknesses, he can do it all at a very high level, then you’re talking someone like Bird. They’re very brief, but pull up what Wilt Chamberlain and MJ said about him (separately).

Doing that in a real game, is unreal. Larry Bird was a progenitor for players in a different way than Jordan. Their mentality was the same.
