Amazing n what a great foresight Maulana had. Listened to his few speeches and now it has completely changed my prospective on partition. @ Rashid Ahmed - Civil Services is largely a meritocracy. The people who converted to Islam in India - were poor and people who belonged to a lower class in society at that time. They did this mostly because they could not afford "Jazia" - or taxes levied on non-Muslims by Muslim rulers of those times. So all the characteristic of the poor people of any given population - that exist all over the globe - is being reflected here as well. This is not unusual. However, what needs to be considered here - is how because of the economic growth in India - they too have the opportunity to leap-frog into the middle-class (unlike the overall stagnation of everyone in Pakistan - except the rich and those in the military - who are just looting the country).
