Abu Ambassadeur 5600 SX fishing reel failure and lessons learned don't buy this reel

I have a 5600 that's 25 years old. Made in Sweden. All I replced was drag washers and line pawl. Still use it.

The older, Swedish made ones are so well made that you experience is not unusual. Great to hear it has worked so well. Best wishes for continued great firing with the reel - Dennis

I often get angry at “cheap Chinese crap” that breaks easy. But in reality we are all to blame. Many of us world wide would rather have 5 shiny cool looking items for the same price as one high quality item. The manufacturers are just giving us what we want

This makes me wonder about what some retired person in Sweden who used to help manufacture the “real” Abu Ambassador reels might think about these current ones. I’ve wondered the same thing about people who worked for Mitchell in France. It it was me, I doubt I’d be too thrilled about the situation. - Chris

Yes it does. I was surprised by a conversation one time when someone was trying to save a few mils on a part. I soon learned what you have said about the math behind it

Evening Dennis, all companies live off of their name. Otherwise the average person would have no idea perceived quality prior to purchase. The problem with manufacturing is the bean Counters telling manufacturing that it cost too much to do this or that. The old adage, can't we just build it good enough? Thank your colleges with MBA courses for that. The Chicom's somewhat understand this, and that's why the no-name reels have zero product support. Those that offer a warranty just send you a new unit, not repair parts. I think I have one of the newer Ambassador reels in the 5000 series reels that I use as a loaner for nephews and nieces that don't fish on a regular basis. If it gets trashed, I'm out nothing.

I had one identical to this and traded it for another reel. While it cast good and i caught some impressive largemouth on it I wasn't impressed with the way it was built
