Penn Spinfisher 704 & 706 how to set the anti reverse dog spring on this fishing reel

This video shows how to install or reset the anti-reverse dog spring on the classic Penn Spinfisher 704 and 706 fishing reel. This is a viewer's request for an assist on his project. See how to remove one and what steps can be taken to avoid this spring from popping out during take apart .

So I have my first 704 that my Dad bought me. Antireverse doesn't work. Noticed the 90 degree part of spring is broken. Just ordered 2 and will be fixing the reel as soon as the part comes. I have tons of greenie and z series penns and this is the first antireverse spring I needed to replace. Thanks Dennis

Good Job Dennis 👍 . One Thing I'll Add Is Something That I Discovered By Accident. A long Time Ago on YT. If You Pause The Video You Can Pinch Outwards to Zoom in the Video. And Really See That Spring Position or Any Other Part ! 😊 Even if This Only Helps A Few I Figured it Was Worth Mentioning.

Hello I currently bought a daiwa 9000c spinning reel, it works great however when i loosen the drag and a fish pulls the line the drag tightes down the spool. I don't know if that is supposed to happen or if there is an issue with the spool or drag knob. Please let me know if you know anything that causes this thank you.

I'm not sure what the issue is. Start with removing and checking the drag stack components in the spool and replace any broken washers

Coincidentally, while reassembling the 700 Spinfisher yesterday, through trial and error I was able to figure out how to reset the anti reverse dog spring. That was about an hour before I sent you the pics of the pictures of the reel. Good video as always, thanks Dennis!

Yes - this is a very sturdy reel that will catch BIG fish

Dennis, I have 4 Penn 704 Greenies and 3 of the 704Z reels so I’ve done this more times than I can count. On a few of my Greenies no matter what I do that dog will pop out every time. The two I have with the medallion like the one you are using are the ones that always pop out. The two 704s I have with the swirl side plate never pop out. I can’t help but wonder why this happens. There is no visible internal difference in the two 704 versions. My 704Z reels also never have the dog popping out. I figure my two medallion 704s are just weird for some crazy reason. Any ideas? - Chris

Looking at eBay ads for a Mitchell 600, it says it's a "multiplier" reel. What does the term "multiplier" mean?

The term Multiplier is used as a way to say a gear ration greater than 1:1. The bigger main gear turns a smaller pinion gear and the rotation of the spool is multiplied. A basic fly reel would be a 1:1 ratio. A 3:1 ratio means that the spool will turn 3 times to one rotation of the main gear (or handle). - Thanks for asking
