i have done many martial arts and can definitely say yes this is the best art in street fight but you will need some knowledge of striking (boxing/muay thai) if you want to cause some serious damage while controlling the fight

*unknown* ...Learning Bjj with Gi for competition is very different than self defense.. We do it differently in MMA especially for street fight. We role with our partners without gi and study each possiblity of strikes from our opponents. Most ppl i met in Dubai are learning with Gi....For example on a bottom guard with a postured opponent they hold on to their hands but the correct way is to immidiately break their posture and close the distance to prevent getting punched or elbowd.....So a lot of these guys become over confident and when they end up in a real fight they get disappointed.

It's not the best, if you drop down to the floor it won't be that soft.. it will hurt your knees, back, elbows and head... It's useful when the other wants to tackle you down or grabs you, then you apply some basic BJJ and he will be done, but make sure it's a fair fight, you don't wan't his friends to come and kick your head while you got him in some lock

Are you supposed to wear a gi? It seems like a useful tool for your OPPONENT and not you lol I can see why it would be standard that everyone has to wear it.. to BE a tool, but if they were just wearing shorts like MMA then it would be such a different meta.

I get it. I know next to nothing about martial arts, but from the outside, it sucks that the uniform is so loose and your opponent gets to use it as leverage. Just not for me, I guess. To each their own.
@claudioss3920
@claudioss3920 6 жыл бұрын
If you are using a gi, then your opponent should wear a gi too, if you fight in no-gi your opponent can't have a gi then... And the reason that they practiced with gi was because when fighting other styles you had to use gi (Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Sanda, Kali, etc... different styles have gi, so BJJ adapted that to fight agains other styles, and traditional JJ for the same reason). The gi it's not a useful tool, try to grab a gi to a judoka or a bjj practicioner... it will burn your skin when they apply force ripping off the skin in the fingers, bjj practicioners have their skin conditioned to support that kind of pain and a bigger skin to protect themselves, it takes some practices to adapt your fingers and skin to grab a gi, it's a lot different with no-gi, where you can't take his shorts or shirt, you just use a grab on him and doesn't burn your skin or anything, same with the ears, they get those grose and big ears by constantly touching the rival's gi with the ear, forcing your body to condition the ear for that situation.

It's top level for sure. But it's not mainstream enough to get the major organizations interested in drug testing. As a result, I bet there are quite a few guys at the top on roids with an extremely unfair advantage in that sense.

@@mikewright902 Yea, to each his own. If talking or thinking about steroid abuse distracts you enough from your goals or focus on training then don't think or talk about it I guess. Most people don't think like that though. It's oftentimes important to look at the bigger picture.

Don't support Abu Dhabi or UAE. They jail women who report being raped because their laws state women who have sex outside of marriage are breaking the law... yes, even women reporting a rape. If you are a BJJ competitor and you have a mother, sister, daughter, aunt... a woman you love in your life, send a message by withholding your talent from the UAE.
