This reel is bullet proof and works better than most modern baitcasting reels today,

Thats my favorite reel. Love that sound it makes when you cast it.

I just viewed your presentation on the 5000C. in 62 or 63, I bought a 5000 but I could not get used to the reel. I throw ighrt and reel left. When I discovered the 5501C3 and 6501C3, I couldn't help myself and bought three of the former and one of the later. I L O V E them! Catch a six pound pike, 3 pound bass or 10 pound cat, you know what you are cranking is going to get the job done. Thanks for sharing. tight lines.

They are great reels. My Great Uncle had one when I was a kid and that's what got me started using bait casters. Thanks for the comment!

Bait casters have a bit of a learning curve to keep from getting backlashes. I was fortunate enough to have a great uncle that taught me how to cast one when I was a kid. Once you learn how to cast one of those older ones, the newer ones are a piece of cake. Thanks for commenting and get out there and use it. You will love it.

Any idea what year model your reel is? I just found one on the side of the road and it looks vintage.

I use to put a lot more line to it. Your reel looks half full, and that would of course lead to more friction in the casting.

I need to respool it. The line on it has been on for about 7-8 years and I had something rip-off about 50-60 yrds. before the drag locked up and broke off... leaving it a little short-on-line than it should. Thanks for commenting.

I know this is old, but I've been thinking about buying one of these. There is tons on eBay and I don't have a baitcaster yet, only spinners. I like the vintage market, they provide durable options that'll last for a long time if you find the right one. I'm thinking about buying an Ambassedeur 5000 to throw on a 7' medium power rod to use for casting lures. Am I making a good choice in thinking it should work out pretty well?

That will be a great set-up. Those reels were well made and if you get one that has been taken care of you will be happy with it. 7' medium rod will be ideal for it.

I have purchased 6 different ones on eBay and FB marketplace and I simply love them. Just make sure they are lubed and that the mechanism for the line guide and worm gear runs smoothly. Also check the centrifugal breaks on the crank side and make sure they are working properly. There is a two pin and a six pin version depending on the age of the reel. Tons of info on KZbin and spares are available if needed. Good luck

That's a big game reel. It will pretty much catch anything. You can take it offshore for grouper and large snapper...just about anything. Is it a 2-speed?

Is the sound off with the video??? I just watched it and it is way off on my computer. It wasn't when I posted it.
