Abu Garcia Revo Inshore fishing reel service and repair

I've had this reel for sometime and it's been a great and dependable reel. I took it out saltwater fishing a couple of weeks ago, so I decided to give it a good cleaning. I had no info on the reel and couldn't even find information on Abu Garcia's website. So, I found your video and it was just what I needed. The main issue I had was getting the ratchet to seat properly on the shaft as I attempted to reassemble. There's nothing to hold the shaft assembly down when you put the side plate on. After trial and error, I learned I had to keep downward pressure on the shaft while putting on the side plate to keep the ratchet seated. Not a good design. I wouldn't be able to do any of this without the help of your video. Thank you!!! I would recommend one thing. I suggest you move your hands back and use the screw driver as a pointer to help watchers see what your trying to do (example 7:40). Thank you again!

Do you undertake to service reels ??? I have several of these needs fixing after my self tried to lube . Doesn’t work although fixed back very carefully, please reply , thanks in advance

Can you explain what was actually making the thumb bar not return? You say it wasn’t seated? Thanks for your tutorials.

Yes - there is a click ratchet that needs to be seated on the gear shaft. If it does not seat properly, it will not be engages with the trip lever bar and will not fire back when the reel is turned.

Thanks a ton. I have the same issue on a 5500uc reel. It started after I had a very heavy weight on and depressed the thumb bar. Now it won’t engage. Maybe the same issue?

Thumb bar not releasing is a very common ABU issue . I fish quite a few of them Oceanside and every season one or two go back for service . They have told me it’s a salt build up that stops the mechanism .

They are right. A common failure point on the releases is dirt and debris and of course salt if you are ocean fishing

I bought this reel off a flea market and it has the exact same problem but I’ve tried to fix it by looking at the video frame by frame but can’t exactly figure out what I’m doing wrong since it has all the parts inside.

Hi. Good video. But all it helped to do was take it apart and put it back together haha. My drag system isn't engaging and the handle spins backwards as you pull line out. The bail is also now doing what this one was doing in the video so I think I made it worse. Thanks for the video though.

It sounds like you do not have the A/R dog set properly. That would be a reason why the handle turns backwards and you don't get the pressure for the drag to work properly. The dog has a "V" fork on the end. One side goes above the ratchet and one below it in order to work properly. If it is jammed under the click ratchet the problems you note are likely to occur. Check the video again around the 8 minute mark - Dennis

Sorry - this is one of the earlier videos that I did. I have changed the camera angle and am trying to eliminate my hand views as much as possible. I hope you "see: that in the more current releases - I appreciate the feedback - Dennis
