Imam Abu Hanifa was from among the first 3 generations. He was a Tabi(Tabe'ee a Muslim who met a Sahabi). He was from our Salaf. May Allah save us all from insulting our Salaf. Yes, books are prone to be edited except Qur'an and our Scholars have done a great job to preserve the Hadith. So very likely, someone might have added bad comments about Him and then linking it to some other respected scholar. A great scholar never insults others.

Not a satisfactory answer kufa was the centre at that time HAZRAT ABDULLAH IBNE MASOUD R.A was send by the second caliph HAZRAT UMER R.A to teach Islam to them and after him HAZRAT ALI r.a him self migrated to kufa and the capital was kufa during Ali R.A than how could it possible that that the direct students of these two great sahaba will allow some thing aghaist Quran o sunna and they were silent spectators they do nothing in that regard.while after 1450 years if someone enter any thing else of Quran o sunna in Islam than no body will allow him to do that. And in kheirul quroon period imam Malik r.a in Madina and imam abu hanifa r.a in kufa both are arranging fiqa and giving fatwa on qiyas and no body stopped them.

The two most knowledgeable of all Sahaba r.a Ali r.a and Abdullah bin Masood r.a had moved to Iraq and spread their knowledge. Imam Hanifa r.a was the fruit of what they planted. Whoever gets a link of these two Sahaba r.a for Islamic knowledge it is sufficient enough to make him the greatest scholar in all the lands. الحمدلله

Actually scholars are of the opinion that compared to the other Imams the sources of Imam Abu Hanifa RA were limited. Yes he took from Ibn Masood R.A but the other imams had access to tabi'in who took from the 3 other prominant sahaba.( Ibn Abbas r.a and so on). Imam Imam Hanbali RA travelled a great deal and took knowledge from so many sources. The other imams were geographically located much more favourably, respectively in mecca and madina. Some of people of hanafi madhab says that we salafis do not like Abu hanifa ... This is not true , we respect Abu hanifa because was one of the scholors of Alhus sunnah , He was weak in hadhith it doesn't mean his level got down in our sight , He was a great imaam ... Patience is the key. Some modern scholars like Sheikh Muqbil didnt follow this principle and reviled Abu haneefa with this fabricated portion of kitab Sunnah imam Ahmad which was added later on in the book.

There is science of hadith regarding to these. Every source of hadith are carefully examined... regarding 'tsiqah'(trustworthy) of the transmitter and so on...not just this the 'matan'(content of hadith) also examined...

No Scholar of Hadith accept bukhari or likes without thorough investigation of texts(mutun) & narrators(rawi); Hundreds of year passed affirming them- this study is called Ilmur Rijal- this is also a proof (for them who can endevour) of Islams Special preservation. among religions.

The observation"not seen a better person than... can be in a different context... not to compare the status of Taa'bee with that of Sahabi. Secondly, it is not clear when did he make this statement. The last Sahabi's death occurred in110 AH and Abu Hanifa, lived 40 years after him. He must have made this statement during that period and compared him with his contemporaries. Then there are atleast 19 ahadith narrated by Abu Hanifa with direct chain of Sahabi's.

There is no doubt that imaam abu hanifa rahimahullah ta'lah is one of a atba'a tabae. According to muhaditheen like Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai rahimahullah research and tahqeeq. Even shaykh saalih fawzan said he took knowledge from tabaen and 'some says' he took knowledge from sahaba. But what shaykh saalih fawzan haifthahullah meant that we consider him one of our noble imaam. However, keep in mind we don't blindly follow neither him nor other imaams rather we take from Qur'an and authentic sunnah and whatever imaam abu hanifa or any other imaams brings with authentic sunnah and it matches with qur'an and sunnah we take it. That rule is for every imaam, not just for imaam abu hanifa rahimahullah alone.

Read zuafa by uqaili. Read ibn hibban almajroheen. What have they narrated about Abu hanifa. Same narrations are in abdullah b Ahmed book. Were these later additions? Zia maqdisi was tortured because of narrating uqaili. Fawzan is just kidding or he does not know.

abu hanifa his da’eef in hadith because of his memory. not because he was untrustworthy. the imams after still considered him from ahl as sunnah. one leaves ahl as sunnah by remaining upon bid’ah, not because they have a weak memory. imam al-dhahabi said about him “one of the geniuses of the son’s of adam” (referring to his intellect not his memory). they would never praise one who was not from ahl as sunnah. so he is majrooh in terms of narration of hadith.
