Yes!! This is literally the main reason we started our channel!! We were tired of travel KZbinrs providing no insights on the places they visit and relying on a tired formula of outrage or shock to get clicks! It’s still early days for our channel but it’s sad to see when you put the work in and don’t repeat the common formula you don’t get the views. We’ll stay true to our values though and keep putting out what we think is quality content! Thanks for your comment - nice to see someone gets it 🤣

@@less-travelled I study archaeology myself it always pains me especially those videos that visit Afghanistan they always show the people and food which is cool but barely any information about the sits and they always go with look at me I survived the Taliban.... keep going surly your channel will grow and grow with time.

I completely agree! The 'danger tourism' is also just lazy content - the fastest way to get views is to do something really risky and just hope it will all works out. I know we walked across Jordan and its deserts, but our lives were in our own hands, not in the hands of some random bloke with a gun in a war zone haha! Yeah it’s a tricky one isn’t it: you want people to engage with the history and enjoy these things, but you also want to protect them. My concern is when people touch things! As I mentioned in our Petra video, stearic acid on people’s hands has actually damaged the rock in places at Petra.

I wonder if the maker of this video will tell us about the movement of the Tempel up hill due to the construction of the Aswan Dam(n) and the rising of the water that would've submerged the whole temple. So Would the sun still be ABLE to TOUCH the four statues of the kings at the very back of the corridor now the whole darn thing has been MOVED ??!

Firstly, thanks for watching my video until the end! I was actually wondering the exact same thing when I was putting the video together. Apparently originally sunlight illuminated the statues inside on February 21st and October 21st, however now it happens a day later on February 22nd and October 22nd. It loses the magic a little but I guess at least it still does it! I don't know if we can be too critical though because a lot of people argue that the dam has been net positive due the lasting contributions it's made to flood control, agriculture, hydropower, economic growth etc etc. Thanks again!

@@less-travelled At least they were able to save the temples by moving them up the mountain instead of just flooding it and burying it forever underwater.

I know everyone calls them temples, but what if Abu Simbel is actually where people coming by ship have to check in before they're allowed to go into the area? Great video and thank you for posting it for those of us who will never go there.

That’s a really interesting idea! The temple itself was religious and propagandistic in its function, but by all means it’s possible it’s strategic location meant it could have also acted as some kind of checkpoint to control trade and military movements coming into Egypt from Nubia! Apparently it used to be on a ‘cataract’ on the Nile (a sort of shallow rocky bit) these were challenging to navigate and hence good locations to control river traffic! Cool idea, I had to look into that - thanks Kay! And we’re glad you enjoyed the video :)
