I visited Abu Simbel many years ago and truly enjoyed the experience. Your amazing documentary here brought back all of the feelings of awe and excitement I had when I walked around the same corner and saw those magnificent, towering monuments. I get quite a “rush” just thinking about that experience now. I thank you for filming your journey there, and giving a wonderful summation of its presence and purpose.

Definitely the correct way to see awesome historical places like this...on site and in it's entirety...and not bits and pieces in a flashy museum in the middle of a busy city.

I visited Abu Simbel at sunrise on February 22. This is one of two special dates. This temple was built so that on 2 dates of the year ( 1: his birthday Feb 22, and 2: his coronation August 23) these are the solstices and so at sunrise for approximately 9 minutes( ?) the chambers are filled with light , filtering to the deepest chamber where the 3 gods are illuninated and 1 remains in darkness. Truly an astronomy & architectural feat!!!! An amazing wonder. Thousands of people travel thru the desert for 3-4 hours in the middle of the night to arrive to Abu Simbel in time for this sunrise and true natural illumination. It was amazing!!!!! Unesco moved the temple as you say- as lake Nassar was flooded by the building of the dam- it was moved 60? Or 90 km ( i cant remember which)

You obviously have a deep knowledge of Egyptology, as this story has in-depth insight and perspective. You told the story of Abu Simbel very uniquely. Most accounts do not acknowledge Ramses' love for Nefertari, and only mention her in passing as being beautiful. I had never heard about her intelligence, but some quick research led me to see tha tyou are astute. Brava.

i am not sure but ,Ramesses II didnt build it because of his victory in the south ,he built it after the battle of kadesh WHICH HAPPENED AT the east of the egyptian empire ,near where syria and turkey is located now , plus writing and reading weren't widely known those days, because there were three known types of languages ,and each language was known by a certain class of people ,anyway thanks for your great video.
