My tour of Abu Simbel, one of ancient Egypt's most magnificent temples. Built by the legendary pharaoh Ramses the Great around 1224 BC, Abu Simbel was the crown jewel of the many building projects completed during his reign. Come with me as I tour both temples of the Abu Simbel complex: the great temple features Ramses and various ancient gods, while the secondary small temple was dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Ramses favorite wife, Nefertari. The temple, located 3 hours south of Aswan, was saved by UNESCO in 1968 when the creation of the Aswan High Dam would have flooded the area. It was dismantled and put back together on higher ground, so its location today is not where Ramses originally had it built.

That looks like a tourist trap and a trip of a life time at the same time. Kinda like disneyland. Thank you!

Yeah it’s kind of unbelievable that something like this was able to be moved - thankful it didn’t end up underwater so we can all continue to experience and enjoy it

Hi. Thanks a lot for the nice video. You mentioned that you travelled with a group to Abu Simbel. How did you book this group tour and approx. how much does it usually costs. Thanks!

Hi there - I went to Abu Simbel as part of a 15 day tour that covered all of Egypt, I did not purchase it as an individual day trip. There are several operators who do day trips out of Aswan. I can’t recommend any personally since I didn’t book this way, but there are plenty of tour operators who do this. Perhaps take a look at Viator or Memphis Tours. You can also do a day trip from Aswan by flying in direct to Abu Simbel - that would be more expensive, but much faster, as the drive is over 3 hours each way.

Did you have any problems during your stay in Egypt?

Little bit of an upset stomach midway, but got some medication at a local pharmacy that worked wonders. That was really the only issue and it was a quick and inexpensive fix!

@@daradventures Cool! Did you ride a taxi in Egypt? I'll have to ride one from the airport.

@@caseyjeter9957 I actually had a car organized for the airport pickup through my hostel. For getting around Cairo, I just did Uber! It was a little hit or miss sometimes with drivers dropping the tide before pickup, but overall it was great - and super cheap!

Why didn't they fix the broken head?
@daradventures
@daradventures Жыл бұрын
The head broke off shortly after construction - it’s been broken on the ground for over 3000 years. When the statues were moved, they kept everything as close to its original way as possible.

I did some group travel and some independent on this trip. While I didn’t personally have any issues, it is always important to be vigilant and aware of yourself and your surroundings at all times. For the traveler who is up for the challenge, Egypt can be a wonderful place to explore on your own, but it’s certainly not for everyone. Guides tours do bring a lot of benefits 😃

This was Christmas Eve 2019, and we did arrive quite early which helped with the crowds.
