My favorite thing about this past year was when NYC made the corner of Ludlow and Rivington streets "Beastie Boys Corner". It is where the album cover photo for Paul's boutique was taken. There is a street sign and mural there now.

Their freestyle figure-8 they perform while on stage is mesmerizing. Truly underappreciated Hip-Hop Gods masquerading as punk/pop clowns.

One of the most INCREDIBLE entrances onstage of a live show you'll ever see. There's another video on KZbin where it shows them doing something similar at the VH1 Hip Hop Honors show. They ride up on bikes, start rappin' outside all the way to the stage.

I saw them live in 99-2000 in SLC - - A Tribe Called Quest opened up from them - an amazing show! Q-Tip came on the stage, during the encore section, and closed it with "Come Together" and "Sabotage" -- where they just smashed all of their equipment and left the stage! RIP MCA!

MCA had probably a top ten Rap Voice of all time, it drew you in even with two other good unique voices in the group. Maybe the best white rap voice of all time. At least IMO. Not flow or skills, just vocal quality.

Back in the day, there there was an animal planet-like show sponsored by mutual of Omaha insurance company. The host was Lorne Greene and I think it was him riding one of those boats with the propeller in the FL everglades. I think they're called airboats. At 1:40.

If you ask anyone working in TV production (especially around that time) this was an unheard of concept/thing to pull off. This was when cameras still had cables too (not that they don't now, we just have other filming options) you can see a shadow early on of a guy who was collecting it for the cameraman. You'll also notice the cable guy start to lag and they have to step over it when they get closer to the studio lol. Still though, gotta be a record for longest TV camera cable ever.

I’m sure you’ve gotten a ton of requests for the song B-Boy Bouillabaisse. I would love to see you review it with a slight spin. You see, I’ve seen this song reacted to by tons of different people, but they all seem to miss a certain aspect. Context. It’s a thing that is generally missed in the entire BB catalogue. A sense of place and time. In this case, it’s young rowdy men in 1980’s NYC. While I would insist you take the song as a whole; Bouillonabaisse is often broken down into 9 different tracks. The third track being Stop That Train. While you hear this track, listen to the lyrics and appreciate the style. But more importantly, consider the context. This is a time capsule of NYC. It’s a love song to the sketchy experience of riding the subway in NY during the 80’s. It was a different experience then compared to now. The city really cleaned itself up in the 90’s after the crack epidemic of the 80’s. Cleaning up the subway experience was a major part of that change. Some of the experience (for better or worse) is lost to history. It wasn’t all bad, just much more visceral. This song captures that feeling in a couple of minutes of bars. But the song also highlights something which has never changed about the subway. Then and now. It’s where the people blend. Rich, poor. Working man or criminal. The subway is just how you get around. Every train car is full of blended people from different backgrounds with different experiences. I love that this track laser focuses on that. Enjoy the lyrics, but also feel the sense of place and time.
