Wow, this was very enlightening. I had motorcycled up through Ecuador from Peru, but hadn't been to Loja. I have had my heart set on Cuenca since visiting ten years ago. The discussions from other expat investigators have opened my eyes to Loja and Vilcabamba. Looking forward to seeing them for myself.

Hey there Bouldergeek! Yes, many people are just now discovering our little hidden gem of region in southern Ecuador. If you want to know why I personally live here in Vilcabamba, you can check out this video I made last year. Please pardon the awful stock footage I put in there for entertainment purposes that aren't even from Ecuador, but you'll get the point from what I say. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppq3oX-Pmr-LbrM If you are wanting to know our opinion about the differences between Manta on the coast, Cuenca, and Loja/Vilcabamba, then check out this podcast we did a while back. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6iZoGmNo6mor8U

Do you have videos about life in Loja and infrastructure, such as medical services, home water and electricity supply? Rentals in locations where cars aren't necessary near amenities? Retirees living in Loja and comparisons with Vilcabamba and Cuenca? I was interested in availability of kosher meat products that might be brought from Cuenca?

Thank you for this video. I had no idea that thing about people waiting around in the park for a job and I've lived here for 7 years now. I also need to re-think my fashion choices when I go to Loja I think. I am SO stuck in my Vilca mom uniform! hahahaha

Hey Ron, thanks. There is not an official mail system in Ecuador. However, there are post office boxes in Vilcabamba, but the method of transportation is via "mules", or people flying down with suitcases with whatever it is that needs to be mailed down to Ecuador. There is a basic hospital in Vilcabamba, and numerous hospitals in Loja that are highly reviewed. The climate in Vilcabamba is ideal with daytime highs in the mid 70's to low 80's year round. If you have any questions about relocating to our part of Ecuador don't hesitate to reach out to Carl directly at carl@abecuador.com

They don’t have open market organic fruits and vegetables? Is the climate harder to grow vegetables?
@AbundantLivingEcuador3 жыл бұрын
The Loja markets do not advertise organic fruits and vegetables. It's possible that some of the produce is organic, but others might be sprayed with pesticides as farmers are beginning to spray in the countryside more and more. In Vilcabamba, we have an association to keep food organic in the area. The expats are the ones who primarily are concerned with organic, and there is a concentration of these expats in Vilcabamba. Hopefully it will catch on in Loja sooner than later.
