Thanks for this review - when i'm on a long European campervan trip I really don't like to spend more than a couple of hours driving each day, so as long as you carefully plan the trip around charging points it's doable. At least you could sit in the van and make lunch while it's charging! That said, there always seems to be at least one marathon all-day drive on a trip like that where you really would need to plan around fast chargers, I can imagine a few cheeky naps while charging at a service station!

There is a video on You Tube about a couple of climbers that took the first very basic one of these vans right down to climb in the Sierra Nevada. Nothing like this, theirs was self converted, but totally planned the trip and only got stuck once somewhere remote when they had to use their little generator. Now there are many more charging stations in Europe. I really like this, thanks for the video, lovely to see your baby. Happy New Year from France. And the price is please?

Instead of using another pitch you could alternate charging and use. If I came onto a camp site I would plug in for my leisure batteries then when I'm out and about i would charge the car battery which should remain fully charged before i leave the campsite thus saving the grief of an extra outlay.

Some people have made a "bridge" to use the passenger seat to extend the bed length. Maybe V2 could have something like this integrated into the design. Also good to know that Cleeverly EVs have partnered with Muxsan to offer the underbody 17.5 KW battery extensions in the UK. This brings a 40kw EVN200 to a very stable 200 miles range and removes rapid gate and improves the charge curve. Stays on 50kw up to 90 plus %.

Nicely done. My last EV had a range less than this and I travelled the country in it, albeit fairly slowly. But whenever I stopped to charge for 30 mins, I thought, 'Now, if only this were a campervan, I could have a cup of tea and a little power nap!' It would be a lovely relaxed way to travel. Today's electric cars, like my current one, have a range of 250-300 miles and charge very quickly, but I actually think spending more time charging is much less of an issue in a van.

4:29 priced at £59,995 just for a minute: how many proper holidays you can have and not to worry about parking, campsite fees, charging at 25 pence per kW, vandalism, car insurance, MOT, service, road tax, not to mention very uncomfortable tight space in it, refilling water. it is probably okay for a day and then you get bored with it. In some countries you can live on £1K a year. Sun shine all year around. This tin can cost you £60K. You decide.

420Ah lithium that’s amazing! Mind you needed for an induction hob. That’s a cute little van, as you say brilliant for little trips or for a solo traveller moving around with fairly frequent stops, very versatile as a mainly day van. Not there yet for a big, eating up the miles, going anywhere for long trips, machine but nevertheless great to see :)

They don't but the traction battery is pretty tiddly, so adding another 7kWh seems like a good idea. On a 100kWh van there probably isn't much point having two batteries to manage.

Can you charge the lithium batteries in the winter, if so are the batteries heated?
@pmkeith
@pmkeith 3 жыл бұрын
The battery “mains” is just under 3 kWH. So it will drain very rapidly if you - 1. Cook using it for any length of time, 2. Heat the van for any length of time, 3 boils water too often. So as a wild camper, in colder weather you will not have enough energy. OK for “fair weather” use on a camp site with mains power. If this is how you are generally going to use it, then it is a great solution for a far larger cost. Like all electric vehicles the ownership costs only become lower if you drive t least around 30,000 miles per year. Because of the alrg3 extra cost of the lithium-ion battery energy supply. The only benefit I can see is that you will still ale to sell the vehicle in ten years time when they have tried to pretty much outlaw any fossil fuel.vehicle on the road. If I were in the market - at 60,000 pound plus for a campervan, I would seriously consider this electric one. But probably still buy a larger diesel/gas based hard top panel van based vehicle, with far more space and facilities, to use over the next ten years at least. Interesting - but electric based vehicles and battery technology still has a long way to go - both in improving the technology/range and the cost.

With 180 odd miles you can easily travel all over Europe, not just to your nearest beach. Your forgetting that’s about 3 hrs driving and then have a break for toilets, dog walking and coffee while it recharges back to 80-90% which will give you another 150 miles! A better and safer way to drive to your destination guys!

Our Renault Zoe car does a range of around 120 miles in winter and 170 summer, with a 44kWh battery, as opposed to 40kWh for this larger vehicle - we're happy with the Zoe range, but wondering if the e-NV200 can really be comparable. We normally drive with the ECO button on.

I like the concept of this and don't see any problem touring with it, 200-300 miles a day with a recharge at lunch would be fine. But some of the design is just so disjointed. Over 400AHrs of leisure battery, but no solar? It would be OK if you could fast charge them at the same time as the traction battery, but no you need to plug in to the mains and recharge overnight and as pointed out most campsite electrics wouldn't be sufficient to charge traction battery too. What they need is a system that can provide 12V dc and 230V ac direct from the traction battery. Then you hit a quick charge point before you stop for the night and have plenty of power. Those lever switches and analogue voltmeter came out of the Ark, and whose idea was it to situate them in the easiest place to damage them (as well as physical damage do they not know that water and electrics are a bad idea?).

@@AsekiBekovy Are you telling me that a full electric camper is going to average 90mph over 5 hours of actual driving time and still get over 110 miles per charge while also finding a vacant charging point at the exact place that the batteries die? Even if it could achieve such a feat it would still be way over 100 miles short of the distance and driving for just over an hour and then stopping for over half an hour seems to be an irritating way to travel.

Nissan is doing some interesting work with Vehicle to Grid using the batteries in these vehicles to power buildings. Therefore, as a secondary vehicle, you could potentially charge it up with cheaper power and draw on this during the day when power is more expensive. Islington Council is involved in a scheme where they are powering the town hall off 5 of these vans. Could be an added bonus if you go down the EV camper route.

A tremendous set up for the leisure battery. Love the van, great spec and I would absolutely buy one but only as a day van. Not because of the size but the limitation of the range. It’s a great one for the future but we need the infrastructure first. I guess it brings up the age old chicken and egg question. Do we need infrastructure first so people buy electric vehicles, or do we need electric vehicles first to create a demand for the infrastructure? Great review though 👍🏻

Nice to see the inclusion of the induction hob. Gas in a small space has always seemed like a bad idea. I have seen at least one upgrade by Nissan to a 65kwh battery for a more realistic 150 to 180 mile range. No one needs to drive for 3 hours without stopping (it's supposed to be a leisure vehicle). Nissan are inefficient, my Zoe goes a lot further than the unladen van for same battery size as Nissan are still using a much older technology without any thermal management. Otherwise nice layout also available in a single berth downstairs More vans are on the way, this is a good start, change has to happen - poor air quality sucks
@chrisgavin
@chrisgavin 4 жыл бұрын
I might be wrong on this, but I think the nv200 battery is different from the Leaf ones and they have thermal management on the vans but not on the cars. That being said, there is a 62kWh Leaf out already but no sign of an env200 van with this bigger pack. I reckon this size pack in the van would give Nissan the lead over anything else available and allow them to 'refresh' this product too. A realistic 200 mile range could be enough to get people touring on electric I reckon.

If Nissan would only release the env200 with a 62kWh battery (like the new Leaf already has), they would have a unique, class-leading van with more like 200 miles range. Top vlog as usual but I think a new mindset would be required for me to get behind an electric camper van. A car? Yes, you be doing your daily commute and know the mileage. The van is (for me) more about the unknown journey and not having to worry about, or plan for recharging every 100/120 miles.
@xxwookey
@xxwookey 3 жыл бұрын
It will require a slightly different mindset, but we all manage the same thing with fuel stations, and there are an awful lot more chargers than petrol stations. People will get used to it, and as is already the case for cars, if you had a reliable 200 miles that really would cover the vast majority of European usage.

Sussex turn out really great vans, but sadly this one just doesn't cut it. Realistically you would need at least double that range to make touring remotely possible. But it's really good to see that at start has been made. I would willingly pay serious money for a 'proper' EV van, since the more I drive my diesel Transit camper, it feels like it will become a dinosaur in just a few years.

More would be nice but it can be done. Glyn Hudson took his 24kWh env200 to southern Spain and back. Chargers in nice spots so you can go for a walk/look-see rather than sit in motorway services would help for campervan usage.

More of a concept really, you'll need a vehicle fast charger at your pitch, range not very practable either...may suit some people? They fit a lot into a smallish van.....we don't have a reliable/standardized charging infrastructure in the u.k yet.
@davidquinn5906
@davidquinn5906 4 жыл бұрын
You don't need a vehicle charger so long as you can draw 10A from the pitch hookup and the site owner is happy with you doing that. This would work for pottering around from site to site charging overnight.

Nice looking mini van, drivers seat not turning is a minus but 120 miles range on a Campervan is extremely limiting. If you have a Campervan you want to be able to use it distance travelling not just for the beach. We expect the 2030 date for all vehicles to be electric will be extended as the industry isn’t geared up to be ready by then. Missed Bentley today 😊

In principle this is an excellent idea - but I live in Kent, and the first leg of my Scotland trips are nearly 500 miles in a single day. I couldnt afford the additional days off work to actually get there, stopping every 150 miles - would make the first stint horrific. My view is that in about ten years, they will find a solution (probably some form of fusion battery) that will do 500 miles in one stint, and probably self charge when you are moving. And possibly have ways of charging without needing to hook up to an electric cable. At this point, we can switch our oil burning campers for a more ethical version. This one would work as a day van for short journeys, but its not a true high distance camper. We need more innovation on the battery cell front.

Why not? You'll need to stop every few hours for a piss/charge, but that's probably not _that_ different from what you do now. Just make a little bit more of the journey in exchange for fucking the planet up rather less. Maybe we should all just decide that towing our houses round with us isn't a very low-carbon way to travel and we should just stop doing that and do something else instead (like go on the train and rent a(n electric) van when you get there...) Things _have_ to change or we are all fucked. You get to choose how you personally will zero your emissions.

Spot on. I'll be switching my current highly efficient, low emissions diesel for an even more efficient and lower emissions new one in about 8 years time. The environment damage that scrapping perfectly good vehicles and extracting the minerals for toxic batteries will be enourmous and then we will still be burning fossils fuels to provide the electricity to charge the batteries.

Unless battery, technology, and infrastructure changes happen in a big way, I can`t see this is going work in a practical sense (irrespective of government policy on all electric vehicles after 2030) - the way forward has to be `hyrodrogen fuel cell` vehicles.
