To be fair to the Will Smith spaghetti one, you did tell them to switch positions, as indicated by the arrows. If you want them to meet halfway, it'd be best to draw the arrows meeting halfway instead of drawing them going all the way past each other. The first thing you learn in any programming class is that a computer does exactly what you tell it to do, regardless of what you may actually want it to do, it's absolutely paramount that you spell out exactly what your intentions are.

When the two vectors you draw are both the entire magnitude of the distance between them, you're telling the AI to swap their positions! If you draw the vectors with half magnitude instead you'll tell the AI that these two things should "collide"

I see the problem with the will Smith Spaghetti test. you told the spaghetti to meet Will (in relation to the starting frame), and then told the spaghetti to meet Will (in relation to the starting frame). Instead making them both meet in the middle. Shortly, you told the ai to orbit each other.
