I consider this a companion piece to Journey, and both games defy what a video game can be. We get so caught up in competition, and weapons, and lives, and levels that we forget how simple beauty can be. Abzu is an absolute masterpiece and I am so honored to have experienced it.

This game perfectly captures how beautiful nature was and still can be. Everything from the soft lush Lilly pads to the large and robust with a dash of beautiful Blue Whales. It shows how beautiful nature was and how we ruined it, but it also introduces the character you play as. He checks out the place, and becomes friends with a shark. Travels to the depths of the planet just to realize their world was being destroyed by the second and as if that wasn't torture enough, his best friend, the shark, dies because of such carelessness of the humans. He gathers up the fish, and then goes along with all the fish and his little sharkey friend's spirit to destroy all the humans have made the planet to be. Just my interpretation of the game.

I don’t think this has anything to do with humankind, rather just a menace in the environment. There are no clues as to what the prisms are exactly nor the big structure that seems to control it all, nor who made them. Also, this nature is far different from ours: the animals dying come back to life, this is even more beautiful than actual life. You’re totally allowed to have your own interpretation though, but I’m not really sure that’s what the devs wanted

Hi 5 years later. Did you ever get this game? I think it's $15 - $20 now. Worth it?
@MrBahBZ8 жыл бұрын
It's gorgeous, and the tech is impressive. But the problem with indi games like this is that there isn't much of a game to it. It's an interactive art exhibit -- and that's nice, but you get the sense that the developers came up with a neat Big Concept and then ran with the same idea for the duration. Even something this lovely becomes redundant after a short bit, and you realize you're essentially passing through as an active spectator, rather than playing. Perhaps that's the point, but for myself and many others, that isn't compelling enough to spend cash. I'd like to see this technology used for a more robust game. Combat isn't specifically necessary if they'd like to keep to that theme, but some other interactivity, conflict and means of resolution is.
@fatmeatball7 жыл бұрын
55 minutes in it drastically changes.
@rodolfoboing7 жыл бұрын
I disagree, it's worth it, because your role in the game is to explore the enjoyment of art and not make decisions, solve pussles, compete etc, none of this matters in fact, because in order to be good you need to have these redundant things?

Sigh, I get so sad that I can't play this b/c my computer can't process it, and everyone I try to watch play it just rejuvinates an area and ditches it instead of riding the awesome creatures they summon like the Manta Rays, Orcas and Whale Sharks. Definitely a personal experience sort of game. I love seeing people react to it's beauty, but I would definitely prefer to stretch the games time by observing every little thing they've put into it.

@user-wn3ix3 жыл бұрын
I recomend you to play "sky: children of the light"
@kiporaan3 жыл бұрын
@@user-wn3ix I would recommend it if it was actually a good game. The devs today in That Game Company (TGC) aren’t the ones that made Journey and Abzû. The only person that stayed is a compositer, so they only work on the music and not the gameplay nor the graphics. TGC of today took everything that the old developers (now in Giant Squid Games) made, and made it with less details, made it worse. There are many things you see in this very video, that are similar in Sky but better and more logical. That wouldn’t be bad if they didn’t ruin everything. It would’ve been a masterpiece too. The universe, the creatures, the music, it’s all great, but: there’s no lore, AND there are too many inconsistencies. If you wonder why I’m saying this, think about the next season, in the abyss where you finally swim in water (oh well, what a coincidence…). Did you hear about it? If not please go take a look. We’re creatures made of fire and light, just like the animals surrounding us. We fly, and we swim (only at the surface for now) just like them. We can swim, walk in puddles, or litteraly stay walking/gliding UNDERWATER on ice for as long as we want (Valley of Triumph, just before the two races). But in Hidden Forest, the rain hurts us, makes us LOSE our light. I could talk about many things about this game (I play about 3-4 hours everyday and I started in June). I’m not saying not to play it, but please don’t consider it like Journey or Abzû or other masterpieces like these. The devs of today took advantage of game elements they didn’t make themselves, they changed them to make them worse. It doesn’t even have an ending. The "ending" makes you lose all the Winged Lights you collect throughout the worlds so you go collect them OVER and OVER AGAIN. Endlessly. If you haven’t played Sky: Children of the Light, then yes, play it but PLEASE acknowledge all of this. And that the game is still in BETA (was first released in 2019), and has NO lore. At all. No story, no names, nothing. We’re Sky children, spirits are Sky elders, and none of them have names.

Graphics are beautiful, music is, too but there isn't much of a game there. Journey was sort of the same thing. It's ok, nothing against these types of games at all but to make a comparison with a similar game, I found Rime far more appealing. Equally beautiful but a real game nonetheless with puzzles and things to do, much more interesting in my opinion. That's the problem with most indie games, they're kind of interesting and different, which is great, but gameplay is never too good.
