Good job! When checking out listings on Ebay, check what has sold, not what is for sale. This will give you a more accurate view of the market, just because someone has listed an item at that price doesn't mean it will sell at that price. Congrats on your buyer as well. Take care, Poo
@sharkscrapper2 жыл бұрын
I usually check the SOLD listings first to see if things are actually being bought and for how much. Then I take a look at what's currently available for sale to get an idea of how crowded it is and what folks are asking. Come in under most of the asking prices and around what things sold for and I can usually move things pretty quick.
@poosmate2 жыл бұрын
@@sharkscrapper Yep, that's the way to do it. Hope you get as quick a turnaround on your next auction win. Take care, Poo

It's specific anyways to HP. I won't be buying something that outlasts the computer and should. I have no clue why someone spends $100+ for each (and included power cord that both have always outlasted all my computers leaving me with them functional and still working after the primary device no longer powers on). Used adapters at auction houses means I can easily find one at $5 or less or someone selling one at $5 in a collection of used peripheral accessories to computers, tvs, etc.

Check how many bids are on it also. Some people will buy from themselves, have friends buy it, etc. This will set the "market value" etc.

Just watched two videos about scrapping these types of adaptors. One breaks them down completely to get the copper out, this one concludes with 'don't even open them' for vest value. It seems to be time vs money, as usual.
@sharkscrapper Жыл бұрын
In this particular case I was also able to find a buyer for them as functional AC adaptors which paid significantly more money than scrap. But in general it does come down to time is money. However, for hobby scrappers time has no value so scrapping them to get the copper is perfectly acceptable, even preferred.
@Opinionatedguy19892 жыл бұрын
Can I say shred? It's not copper bearing. It's a low grade board wrapped in plastic and aluminium. I would test them out and see if they work.
@sharkscrapper2 жыл бұрын
My yard did take them as copper bearing motors - you'll notice the transformer on the board, that's where the copper is. Also just had a very good offer on the rest of the lot. Turned out to be a good money maker.

This is great info! I started scrapping a year ago for fun, with the goal of getting enough gold for a gold tooth! I save just about all metal content apart from alluminum, brass, and nickel. Are there any chords/wires that aren't copper, that I should keep an eye out for? Silver, palladium, gold, etc.. Also, can you explain what you are looking for when scraping on a metal? Any tips would be appreciated!
@sharkscrapper Жыл бұрын
Welcome to the scrapping world solmoman, it's a lot of fun. Other than copper I find aluminum wires. My yard even has a category for insulated Al wire. IF you ever get anything from NASA or very high end military grade you might find some gold wire - but I stress this is very very very rare. Please send me an email at sharkscrapper@gmail.com to further clarify your last question. Not sure what you're asking.

Hey shark nice find, i did ebay reselling and when you list i would recommend title being (clearance, new old stock) even if you price them for $75 each, i know they would sell, 😉 yer may be definitely under cutting people but definitely worth doing it, could even mean someone who needs a few will definitely buy your listing so even if somebody buys 2 for $150 they be getting a great bargain but also means you wont be having to sit on them long, or do 3 separate listening 1 for $74.99, 2 for $149.99 maybe even do 3 for $199.99 Will give more footprint haveing the 3 listings. Great video look forward to a update video, keep scrapping :)

Yeah I've bought some power adapters already on Ebay when getting Laptops that were missing them so I could resell the laptops after fixing them up. I've sold some as well when I get adapters, nice thing is they often have a light on them if they are loose out of wrapping to see if they work and being OEM is a big bonus since you can list as genuine OEM. Those are kind of bulky looking too, I'm guessing it goes to something larger than a laptop like a docking station, printer, network equipment where it doesn't need to get moved around a lot. Ebay is a good way to go if you can hold them to see how fast they go. The power cords that have the DP/N stands for Dell part number if you didn't know but likely HP uses the same vendor or similar cord style that it wouldn't matter as long as it works. If selling those wall cords alone you might want to try grouping some in lots of 5 or 10 at a time to see if they sell faster than singles. A buddy of mine gave me a box full of old SATA drive cables and even older ribbon cables for hard drives/CD drives and floppy drives (all appear new still, many wrapped in bags) back before SATA that I'm looking to group in lots for Ebay to save time and shipping material. My yard does low grade for both ribbon and sata cables so even a few dollars profit after fees per lot is a win.

Sounds like a plan! I don't re-sale much anymore because it is so time consuming but with a lot like that I'd the same, would try to sell some instead of straight for recycling, better for the planet too where possible. True about space though, as you know, my workshop is a little short on space😂, so I tend to just re-sell the really good and vintage bits. I love power adapters, nice cordage, lots of lovely copper toroidal inductors, transformers, aluminium and lovely mosfets too, there is nothing for a micro scrapping woman like me not to love😄

Hope they sell on eBay for you. That platform can be fickle. For example I have a signed Steven King book I was considering selling on eBay. So, I looked it up and woo hoo there was a listing for the same book, also signed, and it was listed for $275. I was excited so I decided to watch the item to see what it actually sold for. Well fast forward to now, over 6 months later and the exact book I have been watching is still there! So needless to say I have not tried to sell my book. Goodness knows how much in listing fees that seller has paid out. LOL.
